Lesson:

1.      Read through the paper The Seventh Commandment (No. CB76) unless it is read as a sermonette with the children present.

2.      Children’s questions are in bold.  This is a general review of the material covered in the lesson.

Q1. What is the Seventh Commandment and where can we find it in the Bible?

A.    The seventh commandment says you shall not commit adultery.  It is in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.

Q2.  What does ‘you shall not commit adultery’ mean?

A.    You should be faithful in your marriage.

Q3.  Is there a spiritual aspect of the seventh commandment?

A.    Yes.  We should be faithful to God and His laws and be preparing to symbolically marry Jesus Christ at his return.

Q4. Why is it important to review the Plan of God when learning about the seventh commandment?

A.    To gain a better understanding of God's thinking and planning as it relates to spiritual beings and the physical creation. The sequence of creation leads us to the structure of marriage and the family and how it fits in the Plan of Salvation.

Q4. In the beginning who always existed?

A.    God the Father always existed.

Q5. Did God want to always be alone?

A.    No. The ultimate goal of the plan of salvation is that everyone (including both spiritual and physical beings) becomes part of the Family of God.

Q6. Did God know how everything would work out before He started creating?

A.    Yes. 1John 3:20 tells us that God knows everything.

Q7. What was the first thing God created?

A.    The spiritual Host. The Being who became Jesus Christ was the very first to be created.  He is called the first of the firstfruits.

Q8. What was created next?

A.    The physical Earth and universal planets.  Job 38:4-7 tells us that the sons of God shouted for joy!

Q9. Who was put in charge of taking care of the Earth?

A.    Although the Bible doesn’t specifically say, we believe one of the angels with the rank of Day Star, Lucifer, was placed in charge of the earth.

Q10. Did Lucifer always obey God?

A.    No.  He became rebellious and thought he could replace God.

Q11. What happened when he disobeyed God?

A.    His name was changed to Satan which means the accuser. One third of the Host (Rev. 12:4) followed Satan in disobeying God; they were all thrown to Earth and the Earth became a waste place.

Q12. What happened next in the Plan of God?

A.    The Earth was refashioned or cleaned up so the first man and his wife could be created and have a safe and healthy place to live and raise their family.

Q13. Who were the first man and woman?

A.    Adam and Eve. For more information about Adam and Eve see the paper Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (No. CB6).

Q14. Who taught Adam and Eve?

A.    The Angel of Yahovah who was later known as Jesus Christ was their teacher in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were taught God’s Laws.

Q15. Who created marriage and how is it described?

A.    God created the institution of marriage as an agreement or covenant between a man and woman where they become “one”.

Genesis 2:24: Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh. (RSV)

Mark 10:6-9 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ 7‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.” (RSV)

Q16. What does “one flesh” or “one person” mean?

A.    It means they were to be one family; they were to love each other, help and encourage each other, and bring up children to the glory and admonition of God. God gave us the institution of marriage and the blessings of the family that we may more fully understand His love for us.

Q17. Does the Bible give us an example of our roles within a marriage?

A.    Yes. Ephesians 5 tells us that the husband is the head of the family just like Christ is the head of the Church and he should love his wife as much as Christ loved the Church.  Wives are to love, support, respect and help their husbands and raise the children. This is just like the Church helps teach and care for all of us under the direction of Jesus Christ.

Q18. Who is the head of Christ?

A.    God the Father (1Cor. 11:3).

Q19. Who helps new people learn about God and Christ once God has called the person?

A.    The Church; i.e. the people in the Church through God’s Holy Spirit.

Activity Options:

1.      Clothespin Families:  Make a doll family out of clothespins (pegs).

2.      Building Blocks:  Family is the building block of society

Supplies for Clothes-pin families:

1.      Different size old-fashioned clothes-pins.

2.      Markers

3.      Coloured yarn (black, brown, yellow, red, gray)

4.      Fabric scraps, ribbons

5.      Glue or paste

Activity:

Have each child make a family of “dolls” that represents his/her own family. These mini dolls can be made out of the old-fashioned type of pins (pegs) used to hang clothes on the line, fabric scraps, yarn, and markers. As they are working on the members of their family, ask the children to think about the qualities of that particular person and why they are grateful to have him/her in their family. When finished, ask the children to state what they like most about their families.

Supplies for Building Blocks:

1.       Piece of cardstock to make cubes for each child

2.      Markers, crayons, or colored pencils (or photos of family members)

3.      Tape, Glue or paste

Activity:

Have the children make cubes out of cardstock paper.  (See next page for example)

Fold the cardstock on the dotted lines and fold into a cube so the children can see which sides they want their pictures on. Unfold the cube and have the children draw pictures of their families.  They could also use photos and glue them onto the sides. Have the children talk about some of the qualities that they love about their families.

Close with prayer.
