Commentary on the Korn: Surah 70 “The Way of Ascent”
Pickthall
Translation and Bible Quotes are from the English Standard Version unless
otherwise noted.
Introduction
The number
allocated to this Surah is not accidental. The Seventy relates also to the
Seventy-two who were originally the Elohim of the Heavenly Host allocated the
nations of the Earth in Deuteronomy 32 and Yahovah elohim, who became the
Christ, was allocated Israel by Eloah as his domain, through which the entire
human host would be called and placed in the elect in the City of God.
So also the
Seventy were allocated to the Tribes of Israel as the Sanhedrin and then Christ
ordained the Seventy as the Council of the elders, and we see that in Luke 10:1
and 17. These were called in the
original texts the Hebomekonta [Duo] or the Seventy [two]. These were given the
power to baptise and ordain to create the means of Salvation and the ascent
into the Resurrections by means of the Holy Spirit.
The ascents of
Moses were also indicative of the preparation of mankind for the Law of God in
order to meet the Messiah at his First and Second Advent (cf. the paper the Ascents of Moses (No. 070)).
See also the Introduction to Surah 72.
The church under
Christ became the only means by which man could ascend to God in the Holy
Spirit. The Prophet was merely one of the Churches of God, all of which were
the Muhammad that was able to rule the Churches of God in the Ahmad or Holy
Spirit.

70.1. A questioner questioned
concerning the doom about to fall
70.2. Upon the disbelievers,
which none can repel
70.3. From Allah, Lord of the
Ascending Stairways
70.4. (Whereby) the angels and
the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years.
70.5. But be patient (O Muhammad)
with a patience fair to see.
70.6. Lo! they behold it afar
off
70.7. While we behold it nigh:

ayat 27.
Ezekiel 30:3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is
near; it will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.
Isaiah 2:12 For the LORD of hosts has a day against all
that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought
low;
Isaiah 13:6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near;
as destruction from the Almighty it will come!
Obadiah 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the
nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on
your own head.
Zephaniah 1:14 The
great day of the LORD is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of
the LORD is bitter; the mighty man cries aloud there.
Matthew 24:21 For then there will be great tribulation,
such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never
will be.
Matthew 24:29-30 Immediately after the tribulation of
those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and
the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30Then
will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of
the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of
heaven with power and great glory.
2Peter 3:9-12 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his
promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any
should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10But the day
of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a
roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth
and the works that are done on it will be exposed. 11Since all these
things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives
of holiness and godliness, 12waiting for and hastening the coming of
the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved,
and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
Genesis 28:12-13 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a
ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold,
the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13And behold,
the LORD stood above it and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your
father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and
to your offspring.
Matthew 24:36 But concerning that day and hour no one
knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in your sight are but as
yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.
2Peter 3:8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved,
that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one

Deuteronomy 28:23-24 And the heavens over your head shall
be bronze, and the earth under you shall be iron. 24The LORD will
make the rain of your land powder. From heaven dust shall come down on you
until you are destroyed.
2Peter 3:7 But by the same word
the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until
the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
70.9. And the hills become as flakes of wool,
Micah 1:3 For behold, the LORD is coming out of his
place, and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth. 4And
the mountains will melt under him, and the valleys will split open, like wax
before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place.
Revelation
16:19-20 The great city was split into three parts, and the
cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her
drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20And every
island fled away, and no mountains were to be found.

Revelation
6:15-17 Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and
the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid
themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16calling
to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is
seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17for the
great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”
70.11. Though they will be given

1Corinthians 6:17-20 But he who is
joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18Flee from sexual immorality.
Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral
person sins against his own body. 19Or do you not know that your
body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are
not your own, 20for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in
your body.
Hebrews
13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be
undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything
worthy of praise, think about these things.
Matthew
25:34-40 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come,
you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me food, I
was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I
was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison
and you came to me.’ 37Then the righteous will answer him, saying,
‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38And
when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39And
when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40And the King
will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of
these my brothers, you did it to me.’

5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity,
sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger,
rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like
these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will
not inherit the kingdom of God.
70.32. And those who keep their

their testimony
70.34. And those who are attentive at

Romans
11:17-22 But if some of the branches were broken off, and
you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now
share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, 18do not be arrogant
toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root,
but the root that supports you. 19Then you will say, “Branches were
broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20That is true. They were
broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do
not become proud, but fear. 21For if God did not spare the natural
branches, He will not spare you either. 22Note then the kindness and
the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness
to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut
off.
