Commentary on the Koran:

Surah 9 “Repentance” also called “Immunity” sometimes also “Repudiation”

(Edition 2.0 20170713-20201219)

The function of Surah 9 “Repentance” and its placement following Surah 8 “Spoils” serves two purposes.  One is that it shows the responsibility of the faith in supporting the widows and orphans from the spoils along the lines of the poor due of the third year tithe. The next is to show the function of the Calendar and the four sacred months that must be preserved.  The 12000 paganised Arabs of the Post Beccan Battle with the Bedouin at Hunayn show the lack of Repentance and weakness in comparison to the 300 under the command of the prophet at Badr and Tubuk. It pointed to the Hadithic destruction of Islam.

Commentary on the Koran: Surah 9 “Repentance” also called “Immunity” and also “Repudiation”

Pickthall’s translation and RSV Bible quotes unless otherwise noted.

Introduction

Surah 9 is termed “Repentance” (At Taubah) from verse 104. It is also often called Al Bara’at the Immunity from the word beginning verse 1. Thus forming the declaration of Immunity from obligation to the idolaters, which also is rendered “Repudiation” from this term. Repentance is inward looking to perfect the individual. The concept of repudiation is opposed to that of repentance of the individual. Repudiation results in the persecution of those who differ, which identifies the blood bath that is modern Islam.

The Surah was taken to Becca in the 9th Year of the Hijrah by Abu Bakr as leader and read out to the multitudes there by Ali and signified what was hoped was the end of idolatry in Arabia. The pagan pseudo Muslims made sure idolatry was not removed however.

Wikipedia also explains the text as follows:

Sūrat Al-Tawbah (Arabicسورة التوبة‎‎, "The Repentance"), also known as al-Barā'ah ("The Repudiation"),[1] is the ninth chapter of the Qur'an. It contains 129 verses and is one of the last Medinan chapters. It is the only sūrah of the Qur'an that does not begin with the basmala. This sūrah was revealed at the time of the Battle of Tabuk.

Verse 37 documents the prohibition of nasīʾ, the calculation of intercalation for the lunar calendar by the priests of the Banu Kinanah tribe of the Quraysh. This prohibition was repeated by Muhammad during the Farewell Sermon on Mount Arafat, which was delivered during the Farewell Pilgrimage to Mecca [Becca – Ed.] on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah 10 AH.

According to Zayd ibn Thabit, when the Qu'ran was first being compiled, he found the last verses of this sūrah in the possession of Abu'l-Khuzayma al-Ansari and no one else.[2][3] In another account, Ubay ibn Ka'b informed Zayd that the Prophet taught him the end of this sūrah and recited the same verses.[4] Some, like Ibn Hazm, suggested that Abu Khuzayma was the only one to have the last verses in written form, as Zayd and others had memorized them.[4]

The absence of the Bismillahi’r Rahim (In the name of Allah the Benificent the Merciful) from this text is an error or on account of “the stern commandments against idolaters which it contains” (in vv. 1-12)  (as per Pickthall and others). The last texts of this Surah are also additions from memories of some others. This was a weakness in the compilation of the Koran texts and there were differences in the other texts. The Persian and the North African texts among the Berber (in Berber) also differ and a great effort has been made to eradicate all other texts other than the Arabic that conforms to the more common text to claim conformity. This practice has all the academic integrity of Luddites. Also the original Arabic is not fully understood by modern Arabs and most Muslims do not understand the Bible on which it is based at all. The Holy Spirit on Baptism is essential to understand both the  texts of the Scriptures and the Koran. That is why Trinitarians, Ditheists and Hadithic etc. Muslims cannot and do not understand nor follow the texts properly. Genuine repentance is required as an adult before baptism is conferred and the Laying on of Hands to receive the Holy Spirit. Very few Muslims are baptised and fewer, if indeed any, accredited officers to confer baptism; although, the Koran requires baptism. See the papers The Koran on the Bible, the Law and the Covenant. (No. 083) and Repentance and Baptism (No. 052).

The Battle of Tabuk is, as we see from the previous Surahs, synonymous with the Battle of Badr. We saw from Surah 8 the regulations issued for the spoils of war and the compensation for the widows and orphans at the 20% rate of the poor-due of the Third Year tithe which is paid with the First Tithe which totals 20% of the First and Second Tithe and is paid in the Third Year of the Seven Year Cycle which ends in the Sabbath Year.

As a result of these regulations the paganised Arabs destroyed the Calendar and the understanding of the jubilee systems and they deliberately misconstructed the Calendar of the church in Arabia with the contrivance of the Rabbinical Jews with their Hillel system and 49 year Jubilee (see the papers Hebrew and Islamic Calendar Reconciled (No. 053), The New Moons (No. 125) and Hillel, Babylonian Intercalations and the Temple Calendar (195C)).

The last verses of the Surah were additions and not original and the texts on the verses or ayats 36 and 37 were issued because of the intercalations being used by the Jews and the paganised Arabs to alter the intercalations for the Temple Calendar from the original system sited to the New Moons as determined by the conjunction which was in use at the Temple period and in the church from Christ and the Apostles.

In 344 CE two Jewish rabbis took the Babylonian intercalations from Babylon to Hillel II at the Jewish court from Jamnia. They were not in accordance with the conjunctions and had been calculated from the Seventh century BCE at Babylon. They allowed the crescent moon to function and allowed the Jews to play with the calendar and postpone months.  They developed this system and in 358 CE Chief Rabbi Hillel II issued a new calendar which allowed the perversion of the intercalations and the placement of the New Moon on the crescent moon of the Moon God Sin which was worshipped as Qamar in Arabia with the sun goddess as the consort Shams in the same way as Baal and Easter or Ashtoreth were worshipped in the Levant but with Baal (Lord) a sun god as a male deity.

We see here that verses 36 and 37 document “the prohibition of nasīʾ, the calculation of intercalation for the lunar calendar by the priests of the Banu Kinanah tribe of the Quraysh. This prohibition was repeated by Muhammad during the Farewell Sermon on Mount Arafat, which was delivered during the Farewell Pilgrimage to Mecca [Becca - Ed.] on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah 10 AH.”

We see that these two verses are actually dealing with the postponement of the Sacred months which prohibit warfare and concern the false usage of the Babylonian intercalations as opposed to the original Temple Calendar. The Babylonian intercalations were false intercalations some six times in the 19 year time cycles that differ from the Temple Calendar and the Calendar of the Church of God. It was presented by the Hadith as prohibiting the proper regulation of the alleged “twelve month” Temple Calendar.

The church had never accepted the Hillel Calendar and the Babylonian intercalations, as the Hillel system was not issued until 330 years after Christ had commenced the church using the correct Temple Calendar in 358 CE. And no one, not even the later Trinitarians of 381-451 at Chalcedon, had accepted the later heresy and it was not until the false prophets of the Churches of God accepted Hillel in the 20th century was it ever to enter the Churches of God, accept for a small period in Transylvania recorded by Rabbi Kohn at Budapest in 1894 by a small group of Judaisers. We will make further comment at verses 36-37.

As we can see the Banu Khinanah tribe of the Qureysh were tasked with making the intercalations at Becca for the paganised Arabs which they did based on the Babylonian intercalations which had also been adopted by the Jews under Hillel some two and a half centuries before the Arabian prophet tried to correct it and stamp out the worship of the crescent moon in paganism.

The calendar based on the crescent moon and its intercalations from Babylon continued on up until the last sermon of the prophet and he reiterated the injunctions but the paganised Arabs utterly perverted the reforms by destroying the complete system of intercalations misrepresenting the ayats in Surah 9 to prevent the Temple Calendar being reintroduced, and at the behest of the later rabbinical Jews also, which would have wrecked their unlawful and reprehensible calendar of Hillel of 250-300 years earlier.

The modern example is that in 2016 the intercalations in Hillel were applied with the result that the feasts were in the Second, Fourth and Eighth months according to the actual Conjunctions and Equinoxes and the true Temple cClendar. Instead of keeping the calendar correctly in the First, Second, Third and Seventh of the Sacred months they were kept in the Second, Third, Fourth and Eighth months of the Year contrary to God’s Law.

The fact is that since the intercalations were stopped by the paganised Arabs under the Hadith, Islam has seldom kept the Sacred Months in the correct months and never ever kept God’s Calendar and the Sabbath, New Moons or Feasts. In the same way the Armstrongite Sardis Churches of God have seldom and only by accident kept the feasts on the correct days and have never kept the New Moons and Sabbaths correctly, encouraging trade contrary to Amos 8:5 on Sabbath, and never keeping New Moons except by sheer fluke. The Trinitarians have never kept the Laws of God.

They will only be brought to repentance when the Witnesses arrive and commence to deal with the false religions of the world and especially Hadithic Islam, the Trinitarians and Hillel Calendar keeping Jews and Churches of God (see the paper The Witnesses (including the Two Witnesses) (No. 135)).  Many will die or suffer great agony from the Plagues of Egypt that will be inflicted on them. If they have not repented by the arrival of the Messiah they will be disallowed from the First Resurrection and Messiah will kill all those that do not repent.

The fact that the Hadith enabled the pagans to destroy Islam and the Arabian church’s functional calendar and prevent its observance of the Temple Calendar and the true Feasts was and is considered a bonus both by the pagan Arabs of the Hadith and the Jews of Hillel. For that they will die.

The Original Temple Calendar is historically provable and has been kept by the Churches of God since Christ and the Apostles with the exception of some of the Sardis and Laodicean systems and especially in the Twentieth and Twenty-first centuries (see God’s Calendar (No. 156)). For that sin and heresy they will be rejected from the First Resurrection as will Hadithic Islam (see the paper Pillars of Philadelphia (No. 283)).

The Elect of the First Resurrection will consist of the 144,000 of the Elect leaders and Prophets, and the Great Multitude, a few Muslims under the Rightly Guided Caliphs and very few if any under the Trinitarian systems. These are they who were baptised and keep the Laws of God including the Sabbaths, New Moons and Feasts, and the two sacraments of the church being Adult Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Few will achieve it and only those of the Five chosen eras of the Churches of God as Churches. Sardis and Laodicea of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries are rejected except for a few faithful.

9.1. Freedom from obligation (is proclaimed) from Allah and His messenger toward those of the idolaters with whom ye made a treaty.

9.2. Travel freely in the land four months, and know that ye cannot escape Allah and that Allah will confound the disbelievers (in His Guidance).

This is the same doctrine proclaimed by the Sun worshippers that seek to eliminate the Laws of God as proclaimed in Trinitarian Easter worship and by the Imams of paganised Hadithic Islam. The prophet states that they cannot escape Allah’ even though they lived among the faithful.

2Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (KJV)

Joshua 9:16 At the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dwelt among them.

Joshua 9:18-21 But the people of Israel did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. Then all the congregation murmured against the leaders. 19But all the leaders said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them. 20This we will do to them: let them live, lest wrath be upon us, because of the oath that we swore to them.” 21And the leaders said to them, “Let them live.” So they became cutters of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation, just as the leaders had said of them. (ESV)

The city of Gibeon signed a treaty by deception. Israel was bound by their words and could not attack them as long as the Gebeonites kept to the terms of the treaty. If they did violate the terms Israel could attack and destroy them. Israel would however not attack them during the four festival months allowing them that grace period for repentance.

The followers of the prophet would have to abide by the peace treaty signed so long as the pagans lived up to the treaty obligations. If the pagans did not they were allowed the four month grace period for repentance. This was over the period from March, April, May to Pentecost at the end of the Omer Count, and the Seventh month commencing on the New Moon at the Conjunction at Trumpets.

9.3. And a proclamation from Allah and His messenger to all men on the day of the Greater Pilgrimage that Allah is free from obligation to the idolaters, and (so is) His messenger. So, if ye repent, it will be better for you; but if ye are averse, then know that ye cannot escape Allah. Give tidings (O Muhammad) of a painful doom to those who disbelieve,

The Feasts are Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles.  They occur in the First, Third and Seventh months.

The greater pilgrimages are the period of the First month and the Seventh month. Tabernacles is the lesser festival in duration. The Seventh month goes from Trumpets but the period of major importance is from Atonement to end Tabernacles.

During the Seventh month an announcement is made to all those assembled that God and His messenger are free of any obligations to idolaters. This is to warn those who violate their treaty obligations that they will be dealt with if they do not repent and mend their ways. Those who do not keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Sabbath, and the Day of Atonement are to be cut off from their people as the elect of Israel (cf. Ex. 12:15, 19; 31:14; S4;174; Lev. 23:29, 30).

9.4. Excepting those of the idolaters with whom ye (Muslims) have a treaty, and who have since abated nothing of your right nor have supported anyone against you. (As for these), fulfil their treaty to them till their term. Lo! Allah loveth those who keep their duty (unto Him).

The Muslims were bound by their treaty to those who remained faithful to the terms of the treaty.

1John 2:5 But whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: (ESV)

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (ESV)

9.5. Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

After the sacred months the Muslims were to do whatever was necessary to destroy the idolaters if they chose not to repent and mend their ways.

Psalm 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (ESV)

The poor-due of the Welfare tithe of the Third year was a compulsory aspect of the law that, like the Sabbath, identified the elect (cf. Tithing (No. 161)).

9.6. And if anyone of the idolaters seeketh thy protection (O Muhammad), then protect him so that he may hear the Word of Allah, and afterward convey him to his place of safety. That is because they are a folk who know not.

Any idolaters seeking the protection of the Muslims were afforded that protection so they could learn the truth and be conveyed to a place of safety.

Psalm 15:4 someone who despises those who act wickedly, but who honors those who honor the LORD; someone who keeps their promise even when it hurts; (CEB)

If we have given our word we have to keep it.

9.7. How can there be a treaty with Allah and with His messenger for the idolaters save those with whom ye made a treaty at the Inviolable Place of Worship? So long as they are true to you, be true to them. Lo! Allah loveth those who keep their duty.

The treaty made is valid only if the parties to it abide by the terms agreed.

1John 2:5 But whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: (ESV)

9.8. How (can there be any treaty for the others) when, if they have the upper hand of you, they regard not pact nor honour in respect of you? They satisfy you with their mouths the while their hearts refuse. And most of them are wrongdoers.

The treaty is made void if the other party, when they are at an advantage, respect not nor honour the agreed terms of the mutual treaty.

Psalm 55:20-21 My companion stretched out his hand against his friends, he violated his covenant. 21His speech was smoother than butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

9.9. They have purchased with the revelations of Allah a little gain, so they debar (men) from His way. Lo! evil is that which they are wont to do.

John 3.36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth.

The worst are those who use the revelations of God for gain or employment and yet prevent those who would do so from entering the Kingdom of God and do not enter themselves. They withhold the truth in unrighteousness.

9.10. And they observe toward a believer neither pact nor honour. These are they who are transgressors.

Psalm 12:2 Every one utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

Romans 16:18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded.

9.11. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion. We detail Our revelations for a people who have knowledge.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (KJV)

1John 5:18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.  (ESV)

9.12. And if they break their pledges after their treaty (hath been made with you) and assail your religion, then fight the heads of disbelief - Lo! they have no binding oaths - in order that they may desist.

9.13. Will ye not fight a folk who broke their solemn pledges, and purposed to drive out the messenger and did attack you first? What! Fear ye them? Now Allah hath more right that ye should fear Him, if ye are believers.

9.14. Fight them! Allah will chastise them at your hands, and He will lay them low and give you victory over them, and He will heal the breasts of folk who are believers.

9.15. And He will remove the anger of their hearts. Allah relenteth toward whom He will. Allah is Knower, Wise.

Ezekiel 17:16-18  "As I live, declares the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant with him he broke, in Babylon he shall die. 17Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company will not help him in war, when mounds are cast up and siege walls built to cut off many lives. 18He despised the oath in breaking the covenant, and behold, he gave his hand and did all these things; he shall not escape.  (ESV)

Proverbs 3:19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; (ESV)

He who keeps his word will not be punished. With the Almighty on my side their lofty walls I fearless scaled. We need to fear God not mere man. God will have mercy on whom He will.

9.16. Or deemed ye that ye would be left (in peace) when Allah yet knoweth not those of you who strive, choosing for familiar none save Allah and His messenger and the believers? Allah is Informed of what ye do.

Psalm 94:14 For the LORD will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; (ESV)

Surah 9.16 in Ali's translation says " Or think ye that ye shall be abandoned, as though Allah did not know those among you who strive with might and main, and take none for friends and protectors except Allah, His Messenger, and the (community of) Believers? But Allah is well- acquainted with (all) that ye do. "

Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. (ESV)

9.17. It is not for the idolaters to tend Allah's sanctuaries, bearing witness against themselves of disbelief. As for such, their works are vain and in the Fire they will abide.

9.18. He only shall tend Allah's sanctuaries who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and observeth proper worship and payeth the poor-due and feareth none save Allah. For such (only) is it possible that they can be of the rightly guided.

Ezekiel 44:15-16 "But the Levitical priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept the charge of my sanctuary when the people of Israel went astray from me, shall come near to me to minister to me; and they shall attend on me to offer me the fat and the blood, says the Lord GOD; 16they shall enter my sanctuary, and they shall approach my table, to minister to me, and they shall keep my charge.

Only the rightly guided of the elect will be allowed to serve God.

9.19. Count ye the slaking of a pilgrim's thirst and tendance of the Inviolable Place of Worship as (equal to the worth of) him who believeth in Allah and the Last Day, and striveth in the way of Allah? They are not equal in the sight of Allah. Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

9.20. Those who believe, and have left their homes and striven with their wealth and their lives in Allah's way are of much greater worth in Allah's sight. These are they who are triumphant.

9.21. Their Lord giveth them good tidings of mercy from Him, and acceptance, and Gardens where enduring pleasure will be theirs;

9.22. There they will abide for ever. Lo! with Allah there is immense reward.

(cf. 2Corinthians 6:14-15)

Mark 10:29-30 Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.

1Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (ESV)

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. (ESV)

9.23. O ye who believe! Choose not your fathers nor your brethren for friends if they take pleasure in disbelief rather than faith. Whoso of you taketh them for friends, such are wrong-doers.

9.24. Say: If your fathers, and your sons, and your brethren, and your wives, and your tribe, and the wealth ye have acquired, and merchandise for which ye fear that there will no sale, and dwellings ye desire are dearer to you than Allah and His messenger and striving in His way: then wait till Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

1John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 9.25. Allah hath given you victory on many fields and on the day of Huneyn, when ye exulted in your multitude but it availed you naught, and the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for you; then ye turned back in flight;

Psalm 33:16 A king is not saved by a large army; a mighty soldier is not delivered by his great strength. (ESV)

1Samuel 14:6 And Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, "Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us; for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few."

During the battle of Huneyn the forces on the prophet’s side outnumbered their enemies yet were forced to retreat until God sent them help from above.

The Battle of Huneyn occurred on Wednesday, the 10th of Shawwal 630 CE after the Muslims had attacked and defeated Becca. On that day the Muslims had twelve thousand armed soldiers. Out of them ten thousand were those who had accompanied him from Medina and had taken part in the conquest of Becca, and the other two thousand were from amongst Qureysh, who had embraced Islam just recently. The command of this group rested with Abu Sufyan who had until recently opposed the Muslims. Their disregard for military tactics as a result of their pride in sheer numbers brought about their near defeat at the hands of the Bedouin  Hawazin and their allies the Thaqif who through spies assembled to attack the Muslims when they had moved from Medina to attack Becca.  The Muslims however defeated Becca quickly and as a result of spies they then moved to attack the Hawazin with 12,000 men. Only four weeks had elapsed since quitting Medina and conquering. Becca 10,000 had come as earlier converts from Medinah and 2000 were recent converts from the Qureysh making this for the time there in Arabia a massive force. However, they, through their negligence and overconfidence, were in serious straits.

Surah 9 follows S8 for the specific reason of noting the 300+13 fighting at Badr were followed by the unconverted pagan converts of 12000 who almost lost at Hunayn symbolising the corruption of Hadithic Islam.

9.26. Then Allah sent His peace of reassurance down upon His messenger and upon the believers, and sent down hosts ye could not see, and punished those who disbelieved. Such is the reward of disbelievers.

Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. (KJV)

Psalm 37:4-6 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. 6He will bring forth your vindication as the light, and your right as the noonday.

God reassured them, after they were brought to their senses, and sent from above His angelic Host to punish the disbelievers. The spoils were massive and distributed among the soldiers as per the directions of Surah 8. This is the second reason it follows Surah 8

9.27. Then afterward Allah will relent toward whom He will; for Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Exodus 33.19 And he said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name 'The LORD.' And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.  (ESV)

Psalm 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (ESV)

9.28. O ye who believe! The idolaters only are unclean. So let them not come near the Inviolable Place of Worship after this their year. If ye fear poverty (from the loss of their merchandise) Allah shall preserve you of His bounty if He will. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.

Psalm 15:1-2 O LORD, who shall sojourn in thy tent? Who shall dwell on thy holy hill? 2He who walks blamelessly, and does what is right, and speaks truth from his heart;

God will provide for us when we are obedient.  These idolaters were prevented from the place of worship because of their idolatry and especially in this their year. As a result they were unclean and some of their spoils were unclean.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

Job 9:4 "Wise in heart and mighty in strength, Who has defied Him without harm? (NAS)

Psalm 147:5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. (ESV)

9.29. Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.

They had been given the Scriptures yet remained pagans and unconverted. At this time the Qur’an did not exist. The Bible is the Scriptures that are those being mentioned.

(cf. 2Corinthians 6:14) then,

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (ESV)

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (ESV)

We fight spiritual battles now. Pray thy kingdom come to subdue the nations of this evil world.

9.30. And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they!

Ezra was the last of the OT prophets and the Jews referred back to him and refused the Messiah yet the Trinitarians espoused the Messiah and did nothing of what he said.

Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Hebrews 2:11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

The human creation are the physical sons of God, the angels are the spiritual sons of God. Ezra was a physical son, Messiah was a spiritual son. Messiah was made son of man by Divine Fiat as seen above in the previous Surahs, yet the Trinitarians had elevated Christ to the level of Eloah the One True God despite his specific injunctions (e.g. Jn.17:3). This sin is seen even today in the Binitarian or Ditheist offshoots of the Churches of God.

Job 38.7 when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

9.31. They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary, when they were bidden to worship only One God. There is no God save Him. Be He Glorified from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!

They were commanded to worship the One True God but they had added others that they worship.

Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” (ESV)

1Corinthians 8:5-6 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth--as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"--  6yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Psalm 96:4 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. (ESV)

9.32. Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah disdaineth (aught) save that He shall perfect His light, however much the disbelievers are averse.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth.

9.33. He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion, however much the idolaters may be averse.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.

Revelation 3:9 Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. (ESV)

The Churches of God and the Philadelphians here will do the work in the Last Days and the tribes of Islam will be made aware of the entire faith and the Jews will be brought to their knees for the Messiah (cf. Pillars of Philadelphia (No. 283)).

9.34. O ye who believe! Lo! many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks devour the wealth of mankind wantonly and debar (men) from the way of Allah. They who hoard up gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah, unto them give tidings (O Muhammad) of a painful doom,

9.35. On the day when it will (all) be heated in the fire of hell, and their foreheads and their flanks and their backs will be branded therewith (and it will be said unto them): Here is that which ye hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what ye used to hoard.

Matthew 23:13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in.

Luke 11:52 Woe to you lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.

Zephaniah 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the LORD. In the fire of his jealous wrath, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full, yea, sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.

(cf. Romans 1:18 above).

False teachers and such like are consigned to the Second Resurrection and will face the 2nd death if they do not repent. Many of them will be from the Churches of God who are heretics from the Sardis and Laodicean systems. Massive numbers will come from the Trinitarians and Hadithic Islam.

9.36. Lo! the number of the months with Allah is twelve months by Allah's ordinance in the day that He created the heavens and the earth. Four of them are sacred: that is the right religion. So wrong not yourselves in them. And wage war on all of the idolaters as they are waging war on all of you. And know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him).

Twelve months is a normal year from the aspect of prophecy, four of which are said to be sacred as festivals take place in those months. So Muslims would not want to go to war during these festival months. A prophetic year is 12 months of 30 days and thus of 360 days in the prophetic year and that was why the 360 days were around the Kaaba as idols.

The New Year began with the New Moon of the First Month Abib or Spring in the Northern  Hemisphere. The Babylonians commenced the civil year in the September Equinox. The Introduction explains how the paganised Arabs stopped the enforcement of the Temple Calendar which ran contrary to the Jewish Hillel system.

(cf. Micah 6:8 above)

Deuteronomy 10:12-13 "Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13and to keep the LORD'S commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? (NAS)

The Babylonian Calendar Intercalations run contrary to the Temple Calendar Intercalations and effectively postpone the Sacred months in the sequence of the year. Islam under the Church of God was ordered to stop postponing these months.  The Jews under Hillel and later, the Hadith, and Armstrong disregarded these orders, if they ever understood them (cf.  The Calendar or the Moon: Postponements or Festivals? (No 195)).

9.37. Postponement (of a sacred month) is only an excess of disbelief whereby those who disbelieve are misled; they allow it one year and forbid it (another) year, that they may make up the number of the months which Allah hath hallowed, so that they allow that which Allah hath forbidden. The evil of their deeds is made fairseeming unto them. Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.

Postponement of festival months takes place among groups that follow the Hillel Calendar and use Babylonian intercalations as they did at Becca. These groups are a month late in their observance of festivals in over one third of all years and in almost all years by some days and in the Hadith by months and complete years.

2Corinthians 4:4 In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe to keep them from seeing the light of the glorious gospel of the Messiah, who is the image of God. (ISV)

9.38. O ye who believe! What aileth you that when it is said unto you: Go forth in the way of Allah, ye are bowed down to the ground with heaviness. Take ye pleasure in the life of the world rather than in the Hereafter?  The comfort of the life of the world is but little in the Hereafter.

Matthew 19:16-22 And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?"  17And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments." 18He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 20The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still lack?" 21Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 22When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

Luke 9:62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” (ESV)

John 6:27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal." (ESV)

Psalm 144:3-4 O LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? 4Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow. (NAS)

2Corinthians 4:18 because we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

9.39. If ye go not forth He will afflict you with a painful doom, and will choose instead of you a folk other than you. Ye cannot harm Him at all. Allah is Able to do all things.

The slaves of the Almighty have to do the job assigned to them. They have no choice. If they do not God is able to replace them. Why be punished for failing to act?

Matthew 3:8-10 Bear fruit that befits repentance, 9and do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father'; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 10Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

1Corinthians 9:16 For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! (ESV)

The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 verses 14 to 29 is also relevant.

9.40. If ye help him not, still Allah helped him when those who disbelieve drove him forth, the second of two; when they two were in the cave, when he said unto his comrade: Grieve not. Lo! Allah is with us. Then Allah caused His peace of reassurance to descend upon him and supported him with hosts ye cannot see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the nethermost, while Allah's Word it was that became the uppermost. Allah is Mighty, Wise.

2Kings 6:15-17 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was round about the city. And the servant said, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"  16He said, "Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 17Then Elisha prayed, and said, "O LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see." So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Job 9:4 "Wise in heart and mighty in strength, Who has defied Him without harm? (NAS)

God's word would always prevail, there is nothing the enemy can do.

9.41. Go forth, light-armed and heavy-armed, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah! That is best for you if ye but knew.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.

9.42. Had it been a near adventure and an easy journey they had followed thee, but the distance seemed too far for them. Yet will they swear by Allah (saying): If we had been able we would surely have set out with you. They destroy their souls, and Allah knoweth that they verily are liars.

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (ESV)

Matthew 13:21-22 Yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. 22As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

9.43. Allah forgive thee (O Muhammad)! Wherefor didst thou grant them leave ere those who told the truth were manifest to thee and thou didst know the liars?

Matthew 7:17 So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit.

Matthew 12:35 The good man out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.

9.44. Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day ask no leave of thee lest they should strive with their wealth and their lives. Allah is Aware of those who keep their duty (unto Him).

Proverbs 30:12 There are those who are pure in their own eyes but are not cleansed of their filth.

9.46. And if they had wished to go forth they would assuredly have made ready some equipment, but Allah was averse to their being sent forth and held them back and it was said (unto them): Sit ye with the sedentary!

9.47. Had they gone forth among you they had added to you naught save trouble and had hurried to and fro among you, seeking to cause sedition among you; and among you there are some who would have listened to them. Allah is Aware of evil- doers.

9.48. Aforetime they sought to cause sedition and raised difficulties for thee till the Truth came and the decree of Allah was made manifest, though they were loth.

9.49. Of them is he who saith: Grant me leave (to stay at home) and tempt me not. Surely it is into temptation that they (thus) have fallen. Lo! hell [the grave] verily is all around the disbelievers.

9.50. If good befalleth thee (O Muhammad) it afflicteth them, and if calamity befalleth thee, they say: We took precaution, and they turn away well pleased.

9.51. Say: Naught befalleth us save that which Allah hath decreed for us. He is our Protecting Friend. In Allah let believers put their trust!

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

In the story of Gideon in Judges 7 there were thirty-two thousand men with Gideon. Not all were able and willing so to speak. Twenty-two thousand were removed as they had fear in their hearts. The second stage of sifting left only three hundred that were chosen for the task. The brick has to be baked in the furnace before it can be used in construction. In the process of sifting most fell by the wayside. That is what is happening in ayats 46 to 49. God chose those He wanted and left the rest behind. They did not go into battle as they were not prepared.

Judges 7:7 And the LORD said to Gideon, "With the three hundred men that lapped I will deliver you, and give the Midianites into your hand; and let all the others go every man to his home."

1Peter 1:7 so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 11:26-28  Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: 27the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, 28and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods which you have not known.

Three hundred fought with Gideon; 300 Keturan Spartans at Thermopolae and 300 fighting at Badr of the 313. The HQ with Qasim and Abu Bakr and aides and the well securing party were not with the main body.

Of whatever comes our way, God is aware as He has to allow it as He watches over our lives.

9.52. Say: Can ye await for us aught save one of two good things (death or victory in Allah's way)? while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with a doom from Him or at our hands. Await then! Lo! We are awaiting with you.

In a battle there may be two possible outcomes, either death or victory, and both are in the hands of God for believers. For disbelievers ruin and destruction await them.

Romans 14:8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. (ESV)

9.53. Say: Pay (your contribution), willingly or unwillingly, it will not be accepted from you. Lo! ye were ever froward folk.

9.54. And naught preventeth that their contributions should be accepted from them save that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His messenger, and they come not to worship save as idlers, and pay not (their contribution) save reluctantly.

Contributions from the disbelievers are not welcome as their attitude is not right and they give grudgingly.

Proverbs 28:9 If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

9.55. So let not their riches nor their children please thee (O Muhammad). Allah thereby intendeth but to punish them in the life of the world and that their souls shall pass away while they are disbelievers.

Matthew 19:21-22 Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 22When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

Psalm 49:20 People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish. (NIV)

Children and riches are indeed a trial for some and maybe the cause of their downfall.

9.56. And they swear by Allah that they are in truth of you, when they are not of you, but they are folk who are afraid.

9.57. Had they but found a refuge, or caverns, or a place to enter, they surely had resorted thither swift as runaways.

9.58. And of them is he who defameth thee in the matter of the alms. If they are given thereof they are content, and if they are not given thereof, behold! they are enraged.

9.59. (How much more seemly) had they been content with that which Allah and His messenger had given them and had said: Allah sufficeth us. Allah will give us of His bounty, and (also) His messenger. Unto Allah we are suppliants.

9.60. The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarer; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is Knower, Wise.

Proverbs 3:19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; (ESV)

Alms collected are for the poor and those who are in need like the widows and orphans who have no other means of support. Ayat 60 mentions others such as the captives and the debtors who need to be set free, to provide for the needs of travellers and for those whose hearts need to be reconciled and to further the work of God. These aspects are covered under the Laws of God concerning the Sabbath and Jubilee releases of the Sacred calendar of the Sabbath and the Fiftieth years.

9.61. And of them are those who vex the Prophet and say: He is only a hearer. Say: A hearer of good for you, who believeth in Allah and is true to the believers, and a mercy for such of you as believe. Those who vex the messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful doom.

Not being doers of the biblical instructions in the Laws of God and the Faith and Testimony of the Christ (Rev. 12:17; 14:12) and in the above verses will only lead to ruin.

9.62. They swear by Allah to you (Muslims) to please you, but Allah, with His messenger, hath more right that they should please Him if they are believers.

9.63. Know they not that whoso opposeth Allah and His messenger, his verily is fire of hell, to abide therein? That is the extreme abasement.

Hebrews 13:20-21 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in you that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1Samuel 2:10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; against them he will thunder in heaven. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king, and exalt the power of his anointed.

9.64. The hypocrites fear lest a surah should be revealed concerning them, proclaiming what is in their hearts. Say: Scoff (your fill)! Lo! Allah is disclosing what ye fear.

9.65. And if thou ask them (O Muhammad) they will say: We did but talk and jest. Say: Was it at Allah and His revelations and His messenger that ye did scoff?

9.66. Make no excuse. Ye have disbelieved after your (confession of) belief. If We forgive a party of you, a party of you We shall punish because they have been guilty.

9.67. The hypocrites, both men and women, proceed one from another. They enjoin the wrong, and they forbid the right, and they withhold their hands (from spending for the cause of Allah). They forget Allah, so He hath forgotten them. Lo! the hypocrites, they are the transgressors.

9.68. Allah promiseth the hypocrites, both men and women, and the disbelievers fire of hell for their abode. It will suffice them. Allah curseth them, and theirs is lasting torment.

Ruin and destruction await the hypocrites on this earth and they will face the Great White Throne Judgement when they are raised from the dead.

9.69. Even as those before you who were mightier than you in strength, and more affluent than you in wealth and children. They enjoyed their lot awhile, so ye enjoy your lot awhile even as those before you did enjoy their lot awhile. And ye prate even as they prated. Such are they whose works have perished in the world and the Hereafter. Such are they who are the losers.

9.70. Hath not the fame of those before them reached them - the folk of Noah, A'ad, Thamud, the folk of Abraham, the dwellers of Midian and the disasters (which befell them)? Their messengers (from Allah) came unto them with proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). So Allah surely wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves.

The empires listed in Daniel chapter 2 were mighty and strong but each was to last the fixed term allocated to them. The rulers and their citizens did enjoy the brief term appointed them but they all come to their end. All ended in ruin when their term ran out.

The messengers were sent to the communities listed in ayat 70 to warn them to mend their ways and return to the worship of the One True God, Allah. Those who listened and repented were saved and those who refused to repent ended in ruin when the disasters the messengers warned were coming overtook them by surprise.

So all these people who were not obedient will face intensive corrective training during the Second Resurrection and if they still do not repent will face the second death (cf.  Revelation 20:11-15).

9.71. And the believers, men and women, are protecting friends one of another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and they establish worship and they pay the poor-due, and they obey Allah and His messenger. As for these, Allah will have mercy on them. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise.

9.72. Allah promiseth to the believers, men and women, Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide - blessed dwellings in Gardens of Eden. And - greater (far)! - acceptance from Allah. That is the supreme triumph.

Lamentations 3:22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.(ESV)

Job 9:4 "Wise in heart and mighty in strength, Who has defied Him without harm? (NAS)

9.73. O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites! Be harsh with them. Their ultimate abode is hell, a hapless journey's end.

9.74. They swear by Allah that they said nothing (wrong), yet they did say the word of disbelief, and did disbelieve after their Surrender (to Allah). And they purposed that which they could not attain, and they sought revenge only that Allah by His messenger should enrich them of His bounty. If they repent it will be better for them; and if they turn away, Allah will afflict them with a painful doom in the world and the Hereafter, and they have no protecting friend nor helper in the earth.

9.75. And of them is he who made a covenant with Allah (saying): If He give us of His bounty we will give alms and become of the righteous.

9.76. Yet when He gave them of His bounty, they hoarded it and turned away, averse;

9.77. So He hath made the consequence (to be) hypocrisy in their hearts until the day when they shall meet Him, because they broke their word to Allah that they promised Him, and because they lied.

9.78. Know they not that Allah knoweth both their secret and the thought that they confide, and that Allah is the Knower of Things Hidden?

9.79. Those who point at such of the believers as give the alms willingly and such as can find naught to give but their endeavours, and deride them - Allah (Himself) derideth them. Theirs will be a painful doom.

9.80. Ask forgiveness for them (O Muhammad), or ask not forgiveness for them; though thou ask forgiveness for them seventy times Allah will not forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allah and His messenger, and Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

Revelation 22:15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and every one who loves and practices falsehood.

Psalm 49:20 People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish. (NIV)

Revelation 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

Matthew 5:37 Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Matthew 13:22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

These disbelievers and hypocrites are consigned to the Second Resurrection. They seek the riches and the enjoyment of this earthly life, and, when they have that, they are still disobedient. God says that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.

9.81. Those who were left behind rejoiced at sitting still behind the messenger of Allah, and were averse to striving with their wealth and their lives in Allah's way. And they said: Go not forth in the heat! Say: The fire of hell is more intense of heat, if they but understood.

9.82. Then let them laugh a little: they will weep much, as the reward of what they used to earn.

9.83. If Allah bring thee back (from the campaign) unto a party of them and they ask of thee leave to go out (to fight), then say unto them: Ye shall never more go out with me nor fight with me against a foe. Ye were content with sitting still the first time. So sit still, with the useless.

Those not selected to go to battle were happy to be left behind as they did not want to endure the trial. They were not willing to sacrifice their lives and wealth for the faith. They failed to realize that their future trials would be even more severe. They will be rewarded for their deeds. They will not be trusted for future battles and they lose the opportunity to serve.

Luke 16:10-11 He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. 11If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches?

Matthew 25:23 His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.'

Luke 9:60 But he said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God."

9.85. Let not their wealth nor their children please thee! Allah purposeth only to punish them thereby in the world, and that their souls shall pass away while they are disbelievers.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (ESV)

Wealth and children make it very difficult for the rich to follow the truth and as a result ruin themselves.

9.86. And when a surah is revealed (which saith): Believe in Allah and strive along with His messenger, the men of wealth among them still ask leave of thee and say: Suffer us to be with those who sit (at home).

9.87. They are content that they should be with the useless and their hearts are sealed, so that they apprehend not.

The wealthy do not want to part with their money nor do they want to sacrifice their lives for the faith. They want to be left behind to idle away their time.

(cf. Matthew 19:21-22 above).

Isaiah 44:18 They know not, nor do they discern, for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand. (ESV)

9.88. But the messenger and those who believe with him strive with their wealth and their lives. Such are they for whom are the good things. Such are they who are the successful.

9.89. Allah hath made ready for them Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide. That is the supreme triumph.

(cf. Mark 10:29-30 and Revelation 20:6 above).

9.90. And those among the wandering Arabs who had an excuse came in order that permission might be granted them. And those who lied to Allah and His messenger sat at home. A painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve.

Those who give lame excuses and lie to stay away from the battle will be punished as they do not believe.

Psalm 37:9 For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land. (ESV)

9.91. Not unto the weak nor unto the sick nor unto those who can find naught to spend is any fault (to be imputed though they stay at home) if they are true to Allah and His messenger. Not unto the good is there any road (of blame). Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

9.92. Nor unto those whom, when they came to thee (asking) that thou shouldst mount them, thou didst tell: I cannot find whereon to mount you. They turned back with eyes flowing with tears, for sorrow that they could not find the means to spend.

9.93. The road (of blame) is only against those who ask for leave of thee (to stay at home) when they are rich. They are content to be with the useless. Allah hath sealed their hearts so that they know not.

9.94. They will make excuse to you (Muslims) when ye return unto them. Say: Make no excuse, for we shall not believe you. Allah hath told us tidings of you. Allah and His messenger will see your conduct, and then ye will be brought back unto Him Who knoweth the Invisible as well as the Visible, and He will tell you what ye used to do.

9.95. They will swear by Allah unto you, when ye return unto them, that ye may let them be. Let them be, for lo! they are unclean, and their abode is hell as the reward for what they used to earn.

Those who can be excused from going into battle are the weak, the sick and the elderly and those who are not able to contribute to the cause financially or otherwise. They are allowed to stay home and are not to be blamed.

Those who are willing but cannot be supplied with mounts or the necessary equipment are not at fault either.

The guilty ones are those not willing to sacrifice their lives and not willing to contribute to the cause financially or otherwise. God has hardened their hearts but they are not aware. They cannot be trusted and are not to be believed. God will deal with them as He knows what is in their hearts and minds. They are sent to the Second Resurrection where they will face intensive corrective training.

1Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (ESV)

Giving for the wrong reasons and awaiting the downfall of one's enemy will only be like digging your own grave.

Proverbs 26:26-27 though his hatred be covered with guile, his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly. 27He who digs a pit will fall into it, and a stone will come back upon him who starts it rolling.

9.99. And of the wandering Arabs there is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day, and taketh that which he expendeth and also the prayers of the messenger as acceptable offerings in the sight of Allah. Lo! verily it is an acceptable offering for them. Allah will bring them into His mercy. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

That is the supreme triumph.

God is pleased with those who left their homes, with those who provided contributions to the cause and with those who followed in their footsteps with good deeds and they can look forward to the first garden, the resurrection of the righteous.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. (ESV)

9.101. And among those around you of the wandering Arabs there are hypocrites, and among the townspeople of Al-Madinah (there are some who) persist in hypocrisy whom thou (O Muhammad) knowest not. We, We know them, and We shall chastise them twice; then they will be relegated to a painful doom.

Matthew 23 verses 1 to 36 show Christ denouncing the hypocrites. Severe penalties await them.

9.102. And (there are) others who have acknowledged their faults. They mixed a righteous action with another that was bad. It may be that Allah will relent toward them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

1John 1:9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

9.103. Take alms of their wealth, wherewith thou mayst purify them and mayst make them grow, and pray for them. Lo! thy prayer is an assuagement for them. Allah is Hearer, Knower.

9.104. Know they not that Allah is He Who accepteth repentance from His bondmen and taketh the alms, and that Allah is He Who is the Relenting, the Merciful.

9.105. And say (unto them): Act! Allah will behold your actions, and (so will) His messenger and the believers, and ye will be brought back to the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, and He will tell you what ye used to do.

Ecclesiastes. 12:7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

During the Second Resurrection they will be corrected for their errors as they undergo corrective training to bring them to right knowledge and repentance. If they fail and refuse to repent they will die at the end of their fixed term and then be cremated in the Lake of Fire never to be brought to mind again.

9.106. And (there are) others who await Allah's decree, whether He will punish them or will forgive them. Allah is Knower, Wise.

Romans 9:15, 18 15For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."

18So then he has mercy upon whomever he wills, and he hardens the heart of whomever he wills.

9.107. And as for those who chose a place of worship out of opposition and disbelief, and in order to cause dissent among the believers, and as an outpost for those who warred against Allah and His messenger aforetime, they will surely swear: We purposed naught save good. Allah beareth witness that they verily are liars.

Those who refuse to fellowship with the brethren and wash one another’s feet at Passover are not of us for if they were off us they would have continued with us and not have gone out from us (1Jn. 2:18-20).

Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them.

Acts 20:30 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

Stay with the sheep who listen diligently to the voice of the True Shepherd.

9.108. Never stand (to pray) there. A place of worship which was found upon duty (to Allah) from the first day is more worthy that thou shouldst stand (to pray) therein, wherein are men who love to purify themselves. Allah loveth the purifiers.

(Note standing to pray).

1Thessalonians 2:12-13 we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory. 13And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. (ESV)

2Thessalonians 2:13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth (ESV)

Stay with the church that follows the faith that was once delivered to the saints and Apostles. The One True God is worthy of your worship.

9.109. Is he who founded his building upon duty to Allah and His good pleasure better; or he who founded his building on the brink of a crumbling, overhanging precipice so that it toppled with him into the fire of hell? Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

Matthew 7:24 Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock;

9.110. The building which they built will never cease to be a misgiving in their hearts unless their hearts be torn to pieces. Allah is Knower, Wise.

Matthew 7:26 And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;

Isaiah 46:9-10 "Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, 10Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure'; (NAS)

9.111. Lo! Allah hath bought from the believers their lives and their wealth because the Garden will be theirs: they shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. Who fulfilleth His covenant better than Allah? Rejoice then in your bargain that ye have made, for that is the supreme triumph.

Note the Hadith assets that God has somehow negligently lost the Scriptures of the OT and NT the Torah and the Injeel yet it is clearly here in the possession of the prophet and the church.

1Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Matthew 26:28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Titus 2:14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. (ESV)

9.112. (Triumphant) are those who turn repentant (to Allah), those who serve (Him), those who praise (Him), those who fast, those who bow down, those who fall prostrate (in worship), those who enjoin the right and who forbid the wrong and those who keep the limits (ordained) of Allah - And give glad tidings to believers!

Galatians 2:16 yet who know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified.

Micah 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

9.113. It is not for the Prophet, and those who believe, to pray for the forgiveness of idolaters even though they may be near of kin (to them) after it hath become clear that they are people of hell-fire.

9.114. The prayer of Abraham for the forgiveness of his father was only because of a promise he had promised him, but when it had become clear unto him that he (his father) was an enemy to Allah he (Abraham) disowned him. Lo! Abraham was soft of heart, long-suffering.

Revelation 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

Genesis 26:5 because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” (ESV)

The idolaters will be consigned to the Great White Throne Judgement for intensive corrective training and if they do not repent they will face the second death.

9.115. It was never Allah's (part) that He should send a folk astray after He had guided them until He had made clear unto them what they should avoid. Lo! Allah is Aware of all things.

9.116. Lo! Allah! Unto Him belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He quickeneth and He giveth death. And ye have, instead of Allah, no protecting friend nor helper.

Psalm 46:1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

9.117. Allah hath turned in mercy to the Prophet, and to the Muhajirin and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of hardship. After the hearts of a party of them had almost swerved aside, then turned He unto them in mercy. Lo! He is Full of Pity, Merciful for them.

When the prophet and the Muslims had to go to Media the prophet arranged for the inhabitants of Madinah, as the Ansari, to help the Muslims moving there (as the Muhajarin) to be helped to settle. Thus an early system of established Muslim communities in helping the New Muslims settle in the community was created.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Psalm 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

The Churches of God thus are required to help one another.

9.118. And to the three also (did He turn in mercy) who were left behind, when the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for them, and their own souls were straitened for them till they bethought them that there is no refuge from Allah save toward Him. Then turned He unto them in mercy that they (too) might turn (repentant unto Him). Lo! Allah! He is the Relenting, the Merciful.

The three who were left behind felt they were isolated and all alone like Elijah did. Then God showed him His greatness through a series of miracles. We all need to be encouraged when we feel vunerable and overwhelmed.

1Kings 19:10-11 He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the people of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." 11And he said, "Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;

9.119. O ye who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful.

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

1Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Hebrews 10:25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near, (ESV)

9.120. It is not for the townsfolk of Al-Madinah and for those around them of the wandering Arabs so stay behind the messenger of Allah and prefer their lives to his life. That is because neither thirst nor toil nor hunger afflicteth them in the way of Allah, nor step they any step that angereth the disbelievers, nor gain they from the enemy again, but a good deed is recorded for them therefor. Lo! Allah loseth not the wages of the good.

We should accompany and aid our brethren during times of difficulty and distress.
