Commentary on the Koran: Surah 109 “The Disbelievers”
Pickthall
Translation; Bible Quotes are from the English Standard Version unless
otherwise noted.
Introduction
Al-Kafirun takes its name from the reference to the idolaters at
Becca. They asked the Prophet to compromise on matters of religion.
*****
109.1. Say: O disbelievers!
109.2. I worship not that which ye worship;
109.3. Nor worship ye that which I worship.
109.4. And I shall not worship that which ye worship.
109.5. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
109.6. Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.
This is a reminder to enter by the narrow gate that leads to life, for wide is the
gate and easy is the way that leads to destruction and ruin. Obedience leads to
blessings for the faithful in this life and ultimately helps them attain eternal
life in the First Resurrection. The disbelievers on the other hand will go
their way in direct opposition to the expressed commands of God and reap curses
that will ruin their lives and will face corrective judgement in the Second Resurrection.
If they do not repent they will face the Second Death and be cremated in the Lake
of Fire.
