Commentary on the Koran: Surah 5 “The Feast” or “The Table Spread”

(Edition 2.0 20170622-20190306-20200304)

This Surah emphasises the covenant and concentrates on the Christians of the Covenant and the conflicts between the Trinitarians among the Byzantines who are trying to damage the faith of the Surrender. It is recognised as the last Surah of the Faith and takes the structure of the Covenant on to the last acts of the prophet at Becca. It ties the covenant to the faith in obedience to the commandments and observance of religious duties. The main body of the text is tied to the period from the Fourth to the Seventh Years of the Qur’an and Pickthall ties the text to the Fifth to the Tenth Years of the Hijrah.

Commentary on the Koran: Surah 5 The Feast or The Table Spread

Pickthall’s translation and the RSV used unless otherwise noted.

Introduction

The name of the Surah derives from the Second Sacrament of the Faith following on from Baptism. It is The Lord’s Supper and means the Feast or the Table Spread. The text symbolised the Footwashing, Bread and the Wine of the main feast of the faith on the evening at end 13 Abib beginning the Lord’s Supper at 14 Abib before Christ was to be killed as the Passover Lamb at 3pm on 14 Abib and buried before dark beginning 15 Abib, which was the Passover and which began that phase of the Sign of Jonah (No. 013). It refers to the symbolism of the Lord’s Supper set out for the Sacrifice of Christ and is derived from the reference at verse 112ff.

Pseudo-Christians refer to this as the Eucharist but have trivialised the extreme sanctity of this annual sacrament to a weekly rendition of the sacrament on a Sunday, developed from the Baal or Sun Cults and the worship of the Goddess Easter whose festival was also instituted on the Friday and Sunday of the month of the Passover system. The paganised Arabs of the Hadith have lost all understanding of the symbolism and sanctity of the Lord’s Supper and will be condemned to the Second Resurrection of the infidels and heretics because of it. They also corrupted the Sabbath to a Friday heresy, when we see from Q004 that the Sabbath or Seventh Day of the week is tied to the Covenant.

There are two references, the first at verse 3 which announces the completion of their religion of those of the Surrender which is symbolised by the Lord’s Supper and is the completion of the Faith. Also the last text was uttered as the last of our duties, and the last text at the end of the Surah that refers to the last comments made by the Prophet at his last visit to Becca. That was the “Farewell Visit” when he spoke to the assembled thousands at “Arafat.” Noldeke supposes that two other verses near it are of the same date at the end before his death and the conversion of Arabia. Pickthall agrees with Noldeke in this. Rodwell has placed this as the Last Surah of the Revelation as Pickthall notes but it is better here as it sits in the sequence of Revelation more correctly.

Baptism is the First Sacrament and our entry to the faith and the Lord’s Supper (The Lord’s Supper (No. 103) is our annual and final confirmation of our covenant with God as servants of Christ and priests of the order of Melchisedek (cf. the papers Melchidedek (No. 128) and (128B) and Commentary on Hebrews (F058).

This is our covenant and the confirmation of our Surrender to Eloah as the One True God. In the text here we emphasise that the text in the Koran uses the Arabic form derived from Eastern Aramaic derived from the Chaldean Elahh. The Arabic of the Koran is Allah’ or Al Lah’ (both are rendered as Allah, which really means “The Power” or “The Deity” as does the Hebrew Eloah (Chald. Elahh) who alone is the One True God. Only He is Ha Elohim as The God, the core of the plurality of the elohim, who are all sons of God of the heavenly Host (cf. Job 38:4-7; Ezra 4:23-7:26).

5.1. O ye who believe! Fulfil your indentures. The beast of cattle is made lawful unto you (for food) except that which is announced unto you (herein), game being unlawful when ye are on the pilgrimage. Lo! Allah ordaineth that which pleaseth Him.

Believers are asked to keep the covenant, the law and the testimony.

Isaiah 8:13 But the LORD of hosts, him you shall regard as holy; let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the teaching among my disciples.

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony! If they speak not according to this word it is because there is no light in them (KJV).

A reference is made here to the food laws of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 (see the paper The Food Laws (No. 015)).

5.2. O ye who believe! Profane not Allah's monuments nor the Sacred Month nor the offerings nor the garlands, nor those repairing to the Sacred House, seeking the grace and pleasure of their Lord. But when ye have left the sacred territory, then go hunting (if ye will). And let not your hatred of a folk who (once) stopped your going to the inviolable place of worship seduce you to transgress; but help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and transgression, but keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is severe in punishment.

The Sacred month is the Sanctification from 1 Abib through the fast of 7 Abib to the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and then proceeds on in the Omer Count to Pentecost in Ramadan or Sivan and the giving of the laws of God.

Whatever the unbelievers do or do not do should not affect our obligations to our God. We are to do what is lawful and right.

James 1:21-23 Therefore put away all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror;

Romans 2:13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.

Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works. (ESV)

5.3. Forbidden unto you (for food) are carrion and blood and swineflesh, and that which hath been dedicated unto any other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which hath been killed by (the goring of) horns, and the devoured of wild beasts, saving that which ye make lawful (by the death-stroke), and that which hath been immolated unto idols. And (forbidden is it) that ye swear by the divining arrows. This is an abomination. This day are those who disbelieve in despair of (ever harming) your religion; so fear them not, fear Me! This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour unto you, and have chosen for you as religion al-Islam. Whoso is forced by hunger, not by will, to sin: (for him) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Through the food laws we are to keep holy and the Hadithic Muslims and Trinitarians eat any filth that walks (except pig in the Hadith, but all other manner of filth).

Acts 15:20  but should write to them to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from unchastity and from what is strangled and from blood.

Leviticus 17:14 For the life of every creature is the blood of it; therefore I have said to the people of Israel, You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.

The food laws noted in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 are still applicable. Animals must be slaughtered correctly in accordance with biblical law; those that are killed otherwise are not to be eaten.

Exodus 22:31 You shall be men consecrated to me; therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field; you shall cast it to the dogs.

Leviticus 7:24 The fat of an animal that dies of itself, and the fat of one that is torn by beasts, may be put to any other use, but on no account shall you eat it.

Leviticus 22:8 That which dies of itself or is torn by beasts he shall not eat, defiling himself by it: I am the LORD.'

So also follow the food laws for both texts support them and enjoin them on the followers of the Surrender.

5.4. They ask thee (O Muhammad) what is made lawful for them. Say: (all) good things are made lawful for you. And those beasts and birds of prey which ye have trained as hounds are trained, ye teach them that which Allah taught you; so eat of that which they catch for you and mention Allah's name upon it, and observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is swift to take account.

Reference is made to Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 regarding food that is lawful to eat. Animals caught by trained birds of prey and hunting dogs can be eaten after God's blessing has been invoked upon the food.

1Timothy 4:4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. (ESV)

5.5. This day are (all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the virtuous women of those who received the Scripture before you (lawful for you) when ye give them their marriage portions and live with them in honour, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines. Whoso denieth the faith, his work is vain and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter.

2Corinthians 6:14-15 Do not be mismated with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?

Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. (ESV)

Food that is clean to the believers of the Bible was clean to the followers of the prophet. Only that which was lawful to both believers may be eaten. Both groups submit to the Almighty God and are in compliance to the same laws so there is no distinction between them. Kashrut is not required on either. Allegedly only the absolute poor among the desert tribes of the Arabs may eat the stripped flanks of the camel due to their requests of the prophet (cf. The Food Laws (No. 015)). These aspects are derived in Q022 and seem to be highly suspect and perhaps a later addition.

5.6. O ye who believe! When ye rise up for prayer, wash you faces, and your hands up to the elbows, and lightly rub your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. And if ye are unclean, purify yourselves. And if ye are sick or on a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye have had contact with women, and ye find not water, then go to clean, high ground and rub your faces and your hands with some of it. Allah would not place a burden on you, but He would purify you and would perfect His grace upon you, that ye may give thanks.

General rules of hygiene always apply in all situations. Presenting oneself before any authority or royalty requires a certain dress code. The spiritual aspects are even more important.

Psalm 24:3-4 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false, and does not swear deceitfully.

Psalm 15:2 He who walks blamelessly, and does what is right, and speaks truth from his heart;

5.7. Remember Allah's grace upon you and His covenant by which He bound you when ye said: We hear and we obey; And keep your duty to Allah. Lo! He knoweth what is in the breasts (of men).

Exodus 24:3  Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do."

Exodus 24:7 Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient."

This was the Covenant sworn with God under Moses.

5.8. O ye who believe! Be steadfast witnesses for Allah in equity, and let not hatred of any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty. Observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.

5.9. Allah hath promised those who believe and do good works: Theirs will be forgiveness and immense reward.

Ecclesiastes12:13-14 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

Leviticus 19:18 You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (ESV)

1Peter 1:4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. (ESV)

The righteous will attain the First Resurrection and eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

5.10. And they who disbelieve and deny Our revelations, such are rightful owners of hell.

2Corinthians 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God.

Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. (ESV)

Revelation 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death. (ESV)

They who sin without repentance and baptism are consigned to the Second Resurrection to face intensive corrective training to lead them to repentance. If they choose not to repent during that period they will face the second death.

5.11. O ye who believe! Remember Allah's favour unto you, how a people were minded to stretch out their hands against you but He withheld their hands from you; and keep your duty to Allah. In Allah let believers put their trust.

Exodus 14:19-20 Then the angel of God who went before the host of Israel moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them,  20coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness; and the night passed without one coming near the other all night.

God prevented the enemies from attacking his people. We are given protection at all times from our enemies who want to wipe us out.

Psalm 12:.4-5 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand.

5.12. Allah made a covenant of old with the Children of Israel and We raised among them twelve chieftains, and Allah said: Lo! I am with you. If ye establish worship and pay the poor-due, and believe in My messengers and support them, and lend unto Allah a kindly loan, surely I shall remit your sins, and surely I shall bring you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow. Whoso among you disbelieveth after this will go astray from a plain road.

Exodus 23:20 "Behold, I send an angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.

Leviticus 26:3 If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them,

Deuteronomy 7:12 If you pay attention to these laws and obey them, then the LORD your God will continue with you his covenant of gracious love that he promised with an oath to your ancestors. (ISV)

Physical Israel failed to keep to the terms of their covenant with God. Spiritual Israel will keep their covenant and enter the First Resurrection and inherit eternal life.

If physical Israel had remained faithful to the covenant the story would have been different.

5.13. And because of their breaking their covenant, We have cursed them and made hard their hearts. They change words from their context and forget a part of that whereof they were admonished. Thou wilt not cease to discover treachery from all save a few of them. But bear with them and pardon them. Lo! Allah loveth the kindly.

Psalm 14:3 They have all gone astray, they are all alike corrupt; there is none that does good, no, not one.

Psalm 58:3 The wicked go astray from the womb, they err from their birth, speaking lies.

Romans 11:7 What then? Israel failed to obtain what it sought. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,

All of the Jews, except the minority, rejected the Messiah and the faith and were disbursed and so also did the Jews among the Arabs at the time of the Prophet and also the Paganised Arabs who turned and corrupted the faith there in the Hadith.

2Peter 3:16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. (ESV)

Only a few from them attained salvation, the vast majority turned aside and did what was right in their own eyes. Similar things occurred among the followers of the Prophet as he is asked to put up with them and forgive them. They also corrupted Al Islam through the Hadith.

5.14. And with those who say: "Lo! we are Christians," We made a covenant, but they forgot a part of that whereof they were admonished. Therefore We have stirred up enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection, when Allah will inform them of their handiwork.

Mainstream Christianity violated their covenant and created divisions among themselves so that enmity and hatred resulted and this situation will remain until judgement day. During the Second Resurrection they and Hadithic Islam will undergo intensive corrective training to lead them to repentance.

5.15. O People of the Scripture! Now hath Our messenger come unto you, expounding unto you much of that which ye used to hide in the Scripture, and forgiving much; now hath come unto you light from Allah and plain Scripture,

Deuteronomy 18:15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brethren--him you shall heed—

Isaiah 42:21 The LORD was pleased, for his righteousness’ sake, to magnify his law and make it glorious. (ESV)

Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (ESV)

Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luke 19:47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him;

John 8:12 again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. (ESV)

5.16. Whereby Allah guideth him who seeketh His good pleasure unto paths of peace. He bringeth them out of darkness unto light by His decree, and guideth them unto a straight path.

Psalm 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation; for thee I wait all the day long.

Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God! Let thy good spirit lead me on a level path!

1Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

5.17. They indeed have disbelieved who say: Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. Say: Who then can do aught against Allah, if He had willed to destroy the Messiah son of Mary, and his mother and everyone on earth? Allah's is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. He createth what He will. And Allah is Able to do all things.

Psalm 115:3 Our God is in the heavens; he does whatever he pleases.

Job 42:2 I know that thou canst do all things, and that no purpose of thine can be thwarted.

John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (ESV)

Job 34:14 If he should set his heart to it and gather to himself his spirit and his breath, 15 all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust. (ESV)

Isaiah 46:9-10 Remember the former things from long ago, because I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. 10I declare the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that have not yet been done; saying, 'My counsel will stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.' (RSV)

Messiah was sent by the One True God. The sender is greater than the one sent. So Christ is not the One True God. Mary (Mariam) conceived through a miracle so the Messiah could be born to fulfil his role in the reconciliation of the creation back to God. The potter can do whatever he wants with the clay in his hands.

5.18. The Jews and Christians say: We are sons of Allah and His loved ones. Say: Why then doth He chastise you for your sins? Nay, ye are but mortals of His creating. He forgiveth whom He will, and chastiseth whom He will. Allah's is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and unto Him is the journeying.

Psalm 28:4 Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward. (ESV)

Psalm 104:29 When thou hidest thy face, they are dismayed; when thou takest away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. (ESV)

Zechariah 12:8 On that day the Lord shall put a shield about the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them shall be like David, and the House of David shall be like God (Elohim), like the Angel of the Lord at their head.

John 10:34-36 (cf. Ps. 82:6) Is it not written in your law I said ye are gods (elohim).  If He called them gods to whom the word of God came (and Scripture cannot be broken) do you say of him whom the father consecrated and sent into the world ‘you are blaspheming’ because I said I am the son of God?

5.19. O People of the Scripture! Now hath Our messenger come unto you to make things plain unto you after an interval (of cessation) of the messengers, lest ye should say: There came not unto us a messenger of cheer nor any warner. Now hath a messenger of cheer and a warner come unto you. Allah is Able to do all things.

5.20. And (remember) when Moses said unto his people: O my people! Remember Allah's favour unto you, how He placed among you prophets, and He made you kings, and gave you that (which) He gave not to any (other) of (His) creatures.

Acts 3:22 Moses said, 'The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet from your brethren as he raised me up. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you.

Deuteronomy 7:6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, out of all the peoples that are on the face of the earth.

2Kings 17:13 Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets."

5.21. O my people! Go into the holy land which Allah hath ordained for you. Turn not in flight, for surely ye turn back as losers:

5.22. They said: O Moses! Lo! a giant people (dwell) therein and lo! we go not in till they go forth from thence. When they go forth from thence, then we will enter (not till then).

5.23. Then out spake two of those who feared (their Lord, men) unto whom Allah had been gracious: Enter in upon them by the gate, for if ye enter by it, lo! ye will be victorious. So put your trust (in Allah) if ye are indeed believers.

5.24. They said: O Moses! We will never enter (the land) while they are in it. So go thou and thy Lord and fight! We will sit here.

5.25. He said: My Lord! I have control of none but myself and my brother, so distinguish between us and the wrong-doing folk.

5.26. (Their Lord) said: For this the land will surely be forbidden them for forty years that they will wander in the earth, bewildered. So grieve not over the wrongdoing folk.

The above ayats retell the story narrated to us in the biblical account of Numbers 13 verse 25 to Numbers 14 verse 38. Note also that in this text the land given to Israel is referred to as The Holy Land which Allah hath ordained for Israel.

5.27. But recite unto them with truth the tale of the two sons of Adam, how they offered each a sacrifice, and it was accepted from the one of them and it was not accepted from the other. (The one) said: I will surely kill thee. (The other) answered: Allah accepteth only from those who ward off (evil).

5.28. Even if thou stretch out thy hand against me to kill me, I shall not stretch out my hand against thee to kill thee, lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

5.29. Lo! I would rather thou shouldst bear the punishment of the sin against me and thine own sin and become one of the owners of the fire. That is the reward of evil-doers.

5.30. But (the other's) mind imposed on him the killing of his brother, so he slew him and became one of the losers.

5.31. Then Allah sent a raven scratching up the ground, to show him how to hide his brother's naked corpse. He said: Woe unto me! Am I not able to be as this raven and so hide my brother's naked corpse? And he became repentant.

The first eleven verses of Genesis 4 tell the same story in different words. Wrong doers ruin their lives by doing what seems right in their own eyes. They die in their sins and are consigned to the White Throne Judgement.

Ayat  5.31 says he became repentant. He may have regretted killing his brother. His sorrow appeared to express itself in his concern that others may kill him. It does not appear to lead to a genuine repentance.

5.32. For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth.

Leviticus 24:17 He who kills a man shall be put to death.

Numbers 35:31 Moreover you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death; but he shall be put to death.

Deuteronomy 19:11-12 But if any man hates his neighbor, and lies in wait for him, and attacks him, and wounds him mortally so that he dies, and the man flees into one of these cities, 12then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and hand him over to the avenger of blood, so that he may die.

5.33. The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom;

5.34. Save those who repent before ye overpower them. For know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

1Peter 5:5 Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Isaiah 66:24 And they shall go forth and look on the dead bodies of the men that have rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.

Revelation 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

Acts 3:19 Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

Ezekiel 18:21-23 But if a wicked man turns away from all his sins which he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness which he has done he shall live. 23Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

2Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Romans 5:12-21 Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned--  13sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. 15But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. 16And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. 15If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. 18Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man's act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men. 19For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be made righteous. 20Law came in, to increase the trespass; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The killing of the first man set in motion a sequence that has led to vast numbers of mankind killed and Scripture tells us that if God does not cut short the days mankind will not survive. God's master plan on the other hand would result in the saving of all mankind through the sacrifice of Christ.

No man that surrenders in battle may be put to death save for capital offences and if any man so executes prisoners they are condemned to death and to the Second Resurrection and retraining under service.

5.35. O ye who believe! Be mindful of your duty to Allah, and seek the way of approach unto Him, and strive in His way in order that ye may succeed.

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

1Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Romans 11:20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast only through faith. So do not become proud, but stand in awe.

Philippians 1:6 And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

5.36. As for those who disbelieve, lo! if all that is in the earth were theirs, and as much again therewith, to ransom them from the doom on the Day of Resurrection, it would not be accepted from them. Theirs will be a painful doom.

5.37. They will wish to come forth from the Fire, but they will not come forth from it. Theirs will be a lasting doom.

Psalm 49:7-9 Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, 8for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice, 9that he should live on forever and never see the pit. (ESV)

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

5.38. As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise.

Exodus 22:1-4 If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. He shall make restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. 2If a thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him; 3but if the sun has risen upon him, there shall be bloodguilt for him. 4If the stolen beast is found alive in his possession, whether it is an ox or an ass or a sheep, he shall pay double.

Psalm 147:5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. (ESV)

These are the punishments of the unrepentant and they are qualified by the following text.

5.39. But whoso repenteth after his wrongdoing and amendeth, lo! Allah will relent toward him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Thus no male or female may be forced to suffer amputation after repentance and never if they have paid the fines. A Muslim must suffer the punishment himself if he inflicts such unjust punishment.

5.40. Knowest thou not that unto Allah belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth? He punisheth whom He will, and forgiveth whom He will. Allah is Able to do all things.

1Chronicles 29:11-12 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honor come from thee, and thou rulest over all. In thy hand are power and might; and in thy hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

Exodus 33:19 God said, "I'll cause all my goodness to pass before you, and I'll proclaim the name 'the LORD' before you. I'll be gracious to whom I'll be gracious, and I'll show compassion on whom I'll show compassion. (ISV)

Isaiah 1:28 Rebels and sinners will be broken together, and those who forsake the LORD will be consumed. (ISV)

5.41. O Messenger! Let not them grieve thee who vie one with another in the race to disbelief, of such as say with their mouths: "We believe," but their hearts believe not, and of the Jews: listeners for the sake of falsehood, listeners on behalf of other folk who come not unto thee, changing words from their context and saying: If this be given unto you, receive it, but if this be not given unto you, then beware! He whom Allah doometh unto sin, thou (by thine efforts) wilt avail him naught against Allah. Those are they for whom the Will of Allah is that He cleanse not their hearts. Theirs in the world will be ignominy, and in the Hereafter an awful doom;

5.42. Listeners for the sake of falsehood! Greedy for illicit gain! If then they have recourse unto thee (Muhammad) judge between them or disclaim jurisdiction. If thou disclaimest jurisdiction, then they cannot harm thee at all. But if thou judgest, judge between them with equity. Lo! Allah loveth the equitable.

Isaiah 30:10 They say to the seers, 'Don't see visions,' and to the prophets, 'Don't give us visions of what is right! Instead, tell us welcome things, prophesy illusions, (ISV)

Romans16:18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded.

2Timothy 4:3-4 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, 4and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.

Philippians 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

Jeremiah 17:13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake thee shall be put to shame; those who turn away from thee shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living water.

Leviticus 19:15 You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

Zechariah 7:9 "Thus says the LORD of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, (ESV)

5.43. How come they unto thee for judgment when they have the Torah, wherein Allah hath delivered judgment (for them)? Yet even after that they turn away. Such (folk) are not believers.

5.44. Lo! We did reveal the Torah, wherein is guidance and a light, by which the prophets who surrendered (unto Allah) judged the Jews, and the rabbis and the priests (judged) by such of Allah's Scripture as they were bidden to observe, and thereunto were they witnesses. So fear not mankind, but fear Me. And My revelations for a little gain. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are disbelievers.

5.45. And We prescribed for them therein: The life for the life, and the eye for the eye, and the nose for the nose, and the ear for the ear, and the tooth for the tooth, and for wounds retaliation. But whoso forgoeth it (in the way of charity) it shall be expiation for him. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are wrong-doers.

So any one claiming to be of the faith of Al Islam that does not follow the law and the testimony and judge by the Torah and the Testimony is an unbeliever and an infidel.

Deuteronomy 17:8-13 If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place that the LORD your God will choose. 9And you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and they shall declare to you the decision. 10Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the LORD will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you. 11According to the instructions that they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the verdict that they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left. 12 The man who acts presumptuously, by not obeying the priest who stands to minister there before the LORD your God, or the judge, that man shall die; so you shall purge the evil from Israel.  13And all the people shall hear and fear and not act presumptuously again. (ESV)

The legislation and the procedures were all laid down for the resolution of all disputes but the problem is that men want decisions in their favour and to corrupt the law.

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (ESV)

2Timothy 3:16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

Man chooses not to fear God and follow the laws laid down for guidance but walks according to his own counsel.

Exodus 21:23-25 If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, 24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Leviticus 24:17-22 He who kills a man shall be put to death. 18He who kills a beast shall make it good, life for life. 19When a man causes a disfigurement in his neighbor, as he has done it shall be done to him, 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has disfigured a man, he shall be disfigured. 21He who kills a beast shall make it good; and he who kills a man shall be put to death. 22You shall have one law for the sojourner and for the native; for I am the LORD your God.

If one chooses to forgo compensation they do well. Delivering unrighteous judgement has terrible consequences. Christ modified the punishments and penalties according to law and the Mercy of God.

5.46. And We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow in their footsteps, confirming that which was (revealed) before him in the Torah, and We bestowed on him the Gospel wherein is guidance and a light, confirming that which was (revealed) before it in the Torah - a guidance and an admonition unto those who ward off (evil).

Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. 18For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.

Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (ESV)

Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. (ESV)

5.47. Let the People of the Gospel judge by that which Allah hath revealed therein. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are evil-livers.

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (ESV)

Deuteronomy 17:8-10 If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place that the LORD your God will choose. 9And you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and they shall declare to you the decision. 10Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the LORD will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you. (ESV)

1John 3.4 Every one who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

Malachi 2:7 For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. 8But you have turned aside from the way. You have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts, 9and so I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you do not keep my ways but show partiality in your instruction.” (ESV)

Thus the revelations of Allah through the Torah and the Testimony are the basis of law and judgment.

5.48. And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher over it. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee. For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced-out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differ.

5.49. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires, but beware of them lest they seduce thee from some part of that which Allah hath revealed unto thee. And if they turn away, then know that Allah's Will is to smite them for some sin of theirs. Lo! many of mankind are evil-livers.

5.50. Is it a judgment of the time of (pagan) ignorance that they are seeking? Who is better than Allah for judgment to a people who have certainty (in their belief)?

The Quran is the commentary on earlier Scripture that is the OT and the NT. The Quran confirms that to be so. Thus the faith of the Surrender to God is bound and judged by the law and the prophets and the Gospels.

2Timothy 3:16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

Scripture provides guidance for our lives and shows us in the way we should go.

1Corinthians 10:11 Now these things happened to them as a warning, but they were written down for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come.

What has happened before is laid down as instruction for us. God provides us counsel through His words. All differences will be settled on the day of judgement when man stands before the righteous Judge unto whom we must give an account.

The priest or judge must judge according to the law. Departing from the law leads to destruction as the judge has to bear the consequences of unrighteous judgement. The persons seeking judgement must abide by the decision given or they will suffer punishment. The nation that fails to deliver righteous judgment will be sent into captivity or destroyed.

True believers can be our friends as we all submit to the Almighty God. Jews or mainstream Trinitarian Christians or idol worshipers cannot have communion with us. True believers are commandment keepers and true followers of the prophets must befriend each other.

5.54. O ye who believe! Whoso of you becometh a renegade from his religion, (know that in his stead) Allah will bring a people whom He loveth and who love Him, humble toward believers, stern toward disbelievers, striving in the way of Allah, and fearing not the blame of any blamer. Such is the grace of Allah which He giveth unto whom He will. Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.

Romans 11:20-24 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast only through faith. So do not become proud, but stand in awe. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.  22Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness; otherwise you too will be cut off. 23And even the others, if they do not persist in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24For if you have been cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted back into their own olive tree.

Luke 1:50 And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation.

5.60. Shall I tell thee of a worse (case) than theirs for retribution with Allah? (Worse is the case of him) whom Allah hath cursed, him on whom His wrath hath fallen and of whose sort Allah hath turned some to apes and swine, and who serveth idols. Such are in worse plight and further astray from the plain road.

Apes are specifically identified by the Qur’an  as a person or persons who do not keep the Sabbath and the Calendar of God as part of the Covenant; and swine are worse in their conduct.

Romans 1:21, 28 21for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened.

28And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct.

They hated our master for telling the truth, so they will persecute us also. Our duty as believers is to keep the commandments of God and the testimony and faith of Jesus Christ (Rev. 12:17; and Rev. 14:12).  This was the whole duty of the Muhammad or church of Arabia and the entire world in all its branches under all its prophets.

5.61. When they come unto you (Muslims), they say: We believe; but they came in unbelief and they went out in the same; and Allah knoweth best what they were hiding.

1John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out, that it might be plain that they all are not of us.

5.62. And thou seest many of them vying one with another in sin and transgression and their devouring of illicit gain. Verily evil is what they do.

5.63. Why do not the rabbis and the priests forbid their evil-speaking and their devouring of illicit gain? Verily evil is their handiwork.

5.64. The Jews say: Allah's hand is fettered. Their hands are fettered and they are accursed for saying so. Nay, but both His hands are spread out wide in bounty. He bestoweth as He will. That which hath been revealed unto thee from thy Lord is certain to increase the contumacy and disbelief of many of them, and We have cast among them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection. As often as they light a fire for war, Allah extinguisheth it. Their effort is for corruption in the land, and Allah loveth not corrupters.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your lap, because you will be evaluated by the same standard with which you evaluate others."

Romans 1:21-23 for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. 22Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles.

When the mind is darkened due to unbelief it will believe even lies. This state of confusion will continue until the day of judgement.

5.65. If only the People of the Scripture would believe and ward off (evil), surely We should remit their sins from them and surely We should bring them into Gardens of Delight.

5.66. If they had observed the Torah and the Gospel and that which was revealed unto them from their Lord, they would surely have been nourished from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them there are people who are moderate, but many of them are of evil conduct.

Psalm 81:13-16 O that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! 14I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their foes. 15Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last for ever. 16I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

Deuteronomy 28:11-12 And the LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, within the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. 12The LORD will open to you his good treasury the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

Obedience to the laws and commandments revealed to Israel (which includes all Islam) would have brought about spiritual blessings leading to eternal life in the First Resurrection as well as physical blessings.

5.67. O Messenger! Make known that which hath been revealed unto thee from thy Lord, for if thou do it not, thou wilt not have conveyed His message. Allah will protect thee from mankind. Lo! Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.

Jeremiah 20:8-10 For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, "Violence and destruction!" For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long. 9If I say, "I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name," there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot. 10For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side! "Denounce him! Let us denounce him!" say all my familiar friends, watching for my fall. "Perhaps he will be deceived, then we can overcome him, and take our revenge on him."

The messenger has to deliver the message he cannot run away from his mission. Delivering the message means he has to face the persecution by his audience. There can be no avoidance of rebuking the Hadithic heresies of those who claim Islam in the Last Days. The prophets of the Last Days are required to rebuke them and to warn the world of the coming of the Messiah and the wars of the end  (cf. Jer. 4:15-16; Rev. 11:3ff).

Psalm 46.1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Romans 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot;

5.68. Say O People of the Scripture! Ye have naught (of guidance) till ye observe the Torah and the Gospel and that which was revealed unto you from your Lord. That which is revealed unto thee (Muhammad) from thy Lord is certain to increase the contumacy and disbelief of many of them. But grieve not for the disbelieving folk.

Scripture provides guidance. Unbelief leads to further disbelief and darkened minds.

The prophets and the Qur’an warn the Trinitarian Christians to return to the teaching of the Bible and stands now a witness to Islam of its heresies.

Romans1:21-23 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23And exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. (ESV)

5.69. Lo! those who believe, and those who are Jews, and Sabaeans, and Christians - Whosoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right - there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.

The texts also speak of those called but not chosen at this time. This says that they will be found worthy at judgment after the Second Resurrection. These groups knew God and saw the need for His laws but didn't receive the Holy Spirit. Those alive now still have the opportunity of repentance and baptism and salvation.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.

James 1.25 But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.

1John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

Psalm 112:7  He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. (ESV)

Hebrews 10:16-17 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds," 17then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their misdeeds no more."

5.70. We made a covenant of old with the Children of Israel and We sent unto them messengers. As often as a messenger came unto them with that which their souls desired not (they became rebellious). Some (of them) they denied and some they slew.

There are still three prophets yet with whom the world must reckon.  Two are still to come.

Matthew 21:33-41 "Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. 34When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit. 35And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37Finally he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.' 39And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" 41They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons."  (ESV)

Exodus 24:7-8 Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient." 8And Moses took the blood and threw it upon the people, and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."

Matthew 23:34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,

2Chronicles 36:15 The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place.  (ESV)

Hebrews 1:1-2 In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

5.71. They thought no harm would come of it, so they were wilfully blind and deaf. And afterward Allah turned (in mercy) toward them. Now (even after that) are many of them wilfully blind and deaf. Allah is Seer of what they do.

Matthew 21:42-43 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? 43Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. (ESV)

2Chronicles 36:16 But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words, and scoffing at his prophets, till the wrath of the LORD rose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Nehemiah 9:30 Many years thou didst bear with them, and didst warn them by thy Spirit through thy prophets; yet they would not give ear. Therefore thou didst give them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

Ezra 5:12 But because our fathers had angered the God of heaven, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house and carried away the people to Babylonia.

5.72. They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. The Messiah (himself) said: O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Lo! whoso ascribeth partners unto Allah, for him Allah hath forbidden paradise. His abode is the Fire. For evil-doers there will be no helpers.

The text here warns against those that make Jesus equal to God the Father. Those who worship other gods will be consigned to the Second Resurrection to face corrective training and if they do not repent of the evil ways will face the second death when their bodies will be burnt. No one will intercede for evildoers.

Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.

John 1:18 No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known (Him was added to the end of the text.)

John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me;

John 8:42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.

5.73. They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the third of three; when there is no God save the One God. If they desist not from so saying a painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve.

There is no one equal to the One True God. Those who believe or say otherwise will face their destruction in their physical lives and be sent to the Second Resurrection. It is not only Trinitarians and the followers of Hillel that are condemned but also Binitarians and Ditheists of the Churches of God that are condemned and will die and face the Second Resurrection. The text is clear as are all of such texts in the Qur’an.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. (ESV)

Isaiah 46:9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.  (ESV)

5.74. Will they not rather turn unto Allah and seek forgiveness of Him? For Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I gird you, though you do not know me,

Deuteronomy 32:39  See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

Isaiah 45:18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the LORD, and there is no other. (ESV)

John 20:17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

John 7:33 Jesus then said, "I shall be with you a little longer, and then I go to him who sent me;

Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 1:17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, the most glorious Father, would give you a wise spirit, along with revelation that comes through knowing the Messiah fully. (ISV)

God does not have co equals that are partners to Him. Those who claim He has partners will go to the Second Resurrection and if they do not repent will face the second death.

5.75. The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how We make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!

The text warns again that Jesus isn't equal to God. The words Jesus spoke weren't from himself but from God through the Holy Spirit.

John 6:38  For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me;

5.76.  Say: Serve ye in place of Allah that which possesseth for you neither hurt nor use? Allah it is Who is the Hearer, the Knower.

Idols and false gods can offer you no hope. Only the words from God offer us the path to salvation.

Jeremiah 10:5-10 Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good." 6There is none like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might. 7 Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your due; for among all the wise ones of the nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like you. 8They are both stupid and foolish; the instruction of idols is but wood! 9Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. They are the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith; their clothing is violet and purple; they are all the work of skilled men.  10But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation. (ESV)

5.77.  Say: O People of the Scripture! Stress not in your religion other than the truth, and follow not the vain desires of folk who erred of old and led many astray, and erred from a plain road.

Luke 11:28 But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

5.78. Those of the Children of Israel who went astray were cursed by the tongue of David, and of Jesus, son of Mary (Mariam). That was because they rebelled and used to transgress.

Psalm 37:20 But the wicked will perish; the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures; they vanish—like smoke they vanish away. (ESV)

Psalm 73:27 For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. (ESV)

Luke 11:29 When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah.

5.79. They restrained not one another from the wickedness they did. Verily evil was that they used to do!

Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.

Ezekiel 22:6-8 Behold, the princes of Israel in you, every one according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood. 7Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you. 8You have despised my holy things, and profaned my sabbaths.

5.80. Thou seest many of them making friends with those who disbelieve. Surely ill for them is that which they themselves send on before them: that Allah’ will be wroth with them and in the doom they will abide.

5.81. If they believed in Allah and the Prophet and that which is revealed unto him, they would not choose them for their friends. But many of them are of evil conduct.

This text is a warning against befriending unbelievers.

2Corinthians 6:14-16 Do not be mismated with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

1Timothy 5:24 The sins of some people are conspicuous, going before them to judgment, but the sins of others appear later. (ESV)

James 4:4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (ESV)

5.82. Thou wilt find the most vehement of mankind in hostility to those who believe (to be) the Jews and the idolaters. And thou wilt find the nearest of them in affection to those who believe (to be) those who say: Lo! We are Christians. That is because there are among them priests and monks, and because they are not proud.

The text warns that those most against the Gospel are the Jews, Binitarians Trinitarians and the pagans. Ayat 5.82 seeks to affiliate themselves with the other Churches of God.

Acts 26:21 For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me.

1Thessalonians 2:14-16 For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in Judea; for you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews, 15who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all men 16by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved--so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God's wrath has come upon them at last!

So also the Hadith tried to prevent the  salvation of the Gentiles.

5.83. When they listen to that which hath been revealed unto the messengers, thou seest their eyes overflow with tears because of their recognition of the Truth. They say: Our Lord, we believe. Inscribe us as among the witnesses.

Acts 21:20 And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, "You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed; they are all zealous for the law,

5.84.  How should we not believe in Allah and that which hath come unto us of the Truth. And (how should we not) hope that our Lord will bring us in along with righteous folk?

5.85. Allah hath rewarded them for that their saying - Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the reward of the good.

John 6:68 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life;

Acts 5:20  "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life."

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. (ESV)

The righteous will be rewarded with eternal life in the First Resurrection.

5.86. But those who disbelieve and deny Our revelations, they are owners of hell-fire.

Revelation 2:11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who conquers shall not be hurt by the second death.'

Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

5.87. O ye who believe! Forbid not the good things which Allah hath made lawful for you, and transgress not, Lo! Allah loveth not transgressors.

5.88. Eat of that which Allah hath bestowed on you as food lawful and good, and keep your duty to Allah in Whom ye are believers.

1Corinthians 6:11-17 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 12"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be dominated by anything. 13"Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two will become one flesh." 17But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.  (ESV)

1Corinthians 10:19-25 What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons.  21You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 22Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? 23 "All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up. 24Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. (ESV)

5.89. Allah will not take you to task for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task for the oaths which ye swear in earnest. The expiation thereof is the feeding of ten of the needy with the average of that wherewith ye feed your own folk, or the clothing of them, or the liberation of a slave, and for him who findeth not (the wherewithal to do so) then a three days' fast. This is the expiation of your oaths when ye have sworn; and keep your oaths. Thus Allah expoundeth unto you His revelations in order that ye may give thanks.

Ecclesiastes 5:4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.

5.90. O ye who believe! Strong drink and games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed.

5.91. Satan seeketh only to cast among you enmity and hatred by means of strong drink and games of chance, and to turn you from remembrance of Allah and from (His) worship. Will ye then have done?

1Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.

5.92. Obey Allah and obey the messenger, and beware! But if ye turn away, then know that the duty of Our messenger is only plain conveyance (of the message).

Luke 9:62 Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."

5.93. There shall be no sin (imputed) unto those who believe and do good works for what they may have eaten (in the past). So be mindful of your duty (to Allah), and believe, and do good works; and again: be mindful of your duty, and believe; and once again: be mindful of your duty, and do right. Allah loveth the good.

5.94. O ye who believe! Allah will surely try you somewhat (in the matter) of the game which ye take with your hands and your spears, that Allah may know him who feareth Him in secret. Whoso transgresseth after this, for him there is a painful doom.

Ezekiel 18:21-22 But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. (ESV)

Deuteronomy 6:18 And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers. (ESV)

The hunting of clean wild animals is allowed to the faithful. Vegetarianism in the latter days is a doctrine of demons (see the paper  Vegetarianism and the Bible (No. 183)).

1Timothy 4:1-3 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2through the pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared, 3who forbid marriage and enjoin abstinence from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

5.95. O ye who believe! Kill no wild game while ye are on the pilgrimage. Whoso of you killeth it of set purpose he shall pay its forfeit in the equivalent of that which he hath killed, of domestic animals, the judge to be two men among you known for justice, (the forfeit) to be brought as an offering to the cornerstone; or, for expiation, he shall feed poor persons, or the equivalent thereof in fasting, that he may taste the evil consequences of his deed. Allah forgiveth whatever (of this kind) may have happened in the past, but whoso relapseth, Allah will take retribution from him. Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the wrong).

5.96. To hunt and to eat the fish of the sea is made lawful for you, a provision for you and for seafarers; but to hunt on land is forbidden you so long as ye are on the pilgrimage. Be mindful of your duty to Allah, unto Whom ye will be gathered.

5.97. Allah hath appointed the cornerstone of the Sacred House, a standard for mankind, and the Sacred Month and the offerings and the garlands. That is so that ye may know that Allah knoweth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, and that Allah is Knower of all things.

The limitations on hunting on the pilgrimage were because of the Tithing laws and their proper allocation (cf. Tithing (No. 161)).

There is only one Holy place (called here the sacred house) and it is not Mecca or Becca but Jerusalem.

The term kaaba is from a Greek word: kubos which denotes the cornerstones of a house. Here the sacred house.

Is there historical proof that the followers of Qasim held feasts in Jerusalem?  Yes, the brethren of Islam used to go to Jerusalem for the Passover season.

The church held feasts all over the Middle East just as we do now. The Temple mount was a rubbish tip at that time but the church still looked to Jerusalem as the Holy place. The Kaabah is a ruse to establish Mecca as the place of pilgrimage. It is not and was not used until the start of the revolt in 699 CE well after the death of the Prophet when the Kaabah was moved from Petra area to Mecca. See the text at Chronology of the Koran Part II: Becca and the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs (Q001D).

The term Hajj was applied to all pilgrimages to Jerusalem from the Orthodox and eastern Christian systems. Jerusalem at the time of the prophet used the Temple mount as a rubbish tip but the pilgrims still went there for the feasts and in fact still do from many eastern nations and those who do so use the term Haji for the pilgrims so doing.

At the time of Christ Mecca did not exist as or within any trading system. It does not appear on the ancient trade maps. The church did not go there for any purpose.

Note that Mekka is never mentioned in the Koran but Bakka, in one place, Surah 3.96. The text in 3:96 deals with this matter.

5.98. Know that Allah is severe in punishment, but that Allah (also) is Forgiving, Merciful.

5.99. The duty of the messenger is only to convey (the message). Allah knoweth what ye proclaim and what ye hide.

We can compare the Arabian prophet (Qasim) to the original Apostles and with Paul.

Acts 16:10 And when he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Romans 1:15 so I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

Romans 15:20 thus making it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on another man's foundation,

1Corinthians 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

1Corinthians 9:16 For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

2Corinthians 2:12 When I came to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ, a door was opened for me in the Lord;

2Corinthians 10:16 So that we may preach the gospel in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in another's field.

Galatians 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed.

5.100. Say: The evil and the good are not alike even though the plenty of the evil attract thee. So be mindful of your duty to Allah, O men of understanding, that ye may succeed.

Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

5.101. O ye who believe! Ask not of things which, if they were made unto you, would trouble you; but if ye ask of them when the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made known unto you. Allah pardoneth this, for Allah is Forgiving, Clement.

5.102. A folk before you asked (for such disclosures) and then disbelieved therein.

Romans 1:21-25 for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen.

2Peter 2:1-16 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled. 3And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from of old their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep. 4For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of nether gloom to be kept until the judgment; 5if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven other persons, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction and made them an example to those who were to be ungodly;

5.103. Allah hath not appointed anything in the nature of a Bahirah or a Sa'ibah or a Wasilah or a Hami, but those who disbelieve invent a lie against Allah. Most of them have no sense.

This ayat warns against learning the ways and practices of the nations around us. In this case it refers to the different classes of cattle reverenced by the pagan Arabs. So as to stop this practice they were never identified by the faith but the pagans have done their best to preserve them.

Jeremiah 10:2-3 Thus says the LORD: "Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them, 3for the customs of the peoples are false. A tree from the forest is cut down, and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.

Leviticus 18:3 You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes.

Leviticus 20:23 And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

Numbers 33:52  then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places;

Deuteronomy 18:10
There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer,

Deuteronomy 12:30-32  take heed that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, 'How did these nations serve their gods?--that I also may do likewise.' 31You shall not do so to the LORD your God; for every abominable thing which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. 32"Everything that I command you you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to it or take from it.

Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it; that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

The instruction is crystal clear that we are to do exactly what we are told to do. Imitating the nations should not even cross our minds.

Zechariah 10:2 For the teraphim utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; the dreamers tell false dreams, and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for want of a shepherd.

5.104. And when it is said unto them: Come unto that which Allah hath revealed and unto the messenger, they say: Enough for us is that wherein we found our fathers. What! Even though their fathers had no knowledge whatsoever, and no guidance?

Mark 7:9 And he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God, in order to keep your tradition!

Galatians 1:14 and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers.

Jeremiah 9:14 but have stubbornly followed their own hearts and have gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them. [So also they follow the goddess Easter or Ashtoreth to this day in Trinitarianism.]

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ.

Romans 3:12 All have turned aside, together they have gone wrong; no one does good, not even one.

It is written: Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; nor shall you bear witness in a suit turning aside after a multitude to pervert justice  (Ex. 23:2)

Joshua 24:14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

1Corinthians 8:5-6  For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth--as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"--  6yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Galatians 4:9 but now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly elemental spirits, whose slaves you want to be once more?

The term “beyond the river” refers to the gods of Assyria and Iraq and Persia beyond the Euphrates.

5.105. O ye who believe! Ye have charge of your own souls. He who erreth cannot injure you if ye are rightly guided. Unto Allah ye will all return; and then He will inform you of what ye used to do.

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

Romans 2:6 For he will render to every man according to his works:

Psalm 91:1-4 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, 2will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust." 3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; 4he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Hebrews 4:13 And before him no creature is hidden, but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

1Corinthians 9:24-27 Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26Well, I do not run aimlessly, I do not box as one beating the air; 27but I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

5.106.   O ye who believe! Let there be witnesses between you when death draweth nigh unto one of you, at the time of bequest - two witnesses, just men from among you, or two others from another tribe, in case ye are campaigning in the land and the calamity of death befall you. Ye shall empanel them both after the prayer, and, if ye doubt, they shall be made to swear by Allah (saying): We will not take a bribe, even though it were (on behalf of) a near kinsman nor will we hide the testimony of Allah, for then indeed we should be of the sinful.

5.107.  But then, if it is afterwards ascertained that both of them merit (the suspicion of) sin, let two others take their place of those nearly concerned, and let them swear by Allah, (saying): Verily our testimony is truer than their testimony and we have not transgressed (the bounds of duty), for them indeed we should be of the evil-doers.

Ayats 106-107 verify the need for more than one witness.

Deuteronomy 17:6 On the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses he that is to die shall be put to death; a person shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness.

Deuteronomy 19:15 A single witness shall not prevail against a man for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed; only on the evidence of two witnesses, or of three witnesses, shall a charge be sustained.

5.108. Thus it is more likely that they will bear true witness or fear that after their oaths the oaths (of others) will be taken. So be mindful of your duty (to Allah) and hearken. Allah guideth not the froward folk.

(cf. Acts 5:1-11 Re: Ananias with his wife Sapphira and their deaths by punishment in the Holy Spiirt.)

5.109. In the day when Allah gathereth together the messengers, and saith: What was your response (from mankind)? they say: We have no knowledge. Lo! Thou, only Thou art the Knower of Things Hidden,

The position on the Soul on death is covered in Ecclesiastes.

Note that Ayat 5.109 says: On the day when Allah will assemble the apostles, then say: What answer were you given? They shall say: We have no knowledge, surely Thou art the great Knower of the unseen things.

That means they are waiting in the grave to be resurrected. And the Koran is clear, no one is in heaven; they all are waiting for the resurrection of the dead.

Bottom of Form

5.110. When Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! (Marium) Remember My favour unto thee and unto thy mother; how I strengthened thee with the holy Spirit, so that thou spakest unto mankind in the cradle as in maturity; and how I taught thee the Scripture and Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and how thou didst shape of clay as it were the likeness of a bird by My permission, and didst blow upon it and it was a bird by My permission, and thou didst heal him who was born blind and the leper by My permission; and how thou didst raise the dead by My permission; and how I restrained the Children of Israel from (harming) thee when thou camest unto them with clear proofs, and those of them who disbelieved exclaimed: This is naught else than mere magic;

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

Luke 1:35 And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

Luke 1:28 And he came to her and said, "Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you!"

Luke 2:40, 46, 52 40And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions;

52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

Luke 3:21-22 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, 22and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form, as a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased."

John in chapter 9:1-11 gives the account of the man who was blind from birth and was healed by Christ.

Matthew 8:3 And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

John 11:38-44 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb; it was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. 39Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days." 40 Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" 41So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. 42I knew that thou hearest me always, but I have said this on account of the people standing by, that they may believe that thou didst send me." 43When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out." 44The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with bandages, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

John 7:30 So they sought to arrest him; but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.

John 8:59 So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.

John 10:39 Again they tried to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.

John 12:37 Though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him;

Acts 1:1-2 In the first book, O The-ophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

Revelation 17:6-8 And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her I marveled greatly. 7But the angel said to me, "Why marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her. 8The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is to ascend from the bottomless pit and go to perdition; and the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will marvel to behold the beast, because it was and is not and is to come.

Revelation 18:17-20 In one hour all this wealth has been laid waste." And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off  18and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, "What city was like the great city?" 19And they threw dust on their heads, as they wept and mourned, crying out, "Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! In one hour she has been laid waste. 20Rejoice over her, O heaven, O saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!"

5.111. And when I inspired the disciples, (saying): Believe in Me and in My messenger, they said: We believe. Bear witness that we have surrendered (unto Thee) "we are muslims".

John 6:68-69 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; 69and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Note here the request for the table of the Lord’s Supper at the feast from which the Surah draws its title.

5.112. When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary! Is thy Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven? He said: Observe your duty to Allah, if ye are true believers.
5.113. (They said:) We wish to eat thereof, that we may satisfy our hearts and know that thou hast spoken truth to us, and that thereof we may be witnesses.

5.114. Jesus, son of Mary, said: O Allah, Lord of us! Send down for us a table spread with food from heaven, that it may be a feast for us, for the first of us and for the last of us, and a sign from Thee. Give us sustenance, for Thou art the Best of Sustainers.

5.115. Allah said: Lo! I send it down for you. And whoso disbelieveth of you afterward, him surely will I punish with a punishment wherewith I have not punished any of (My) creatures.

Thus we see the Lord’s Supper, on 14 Abib, established as the Second Sacrament of the faith after Baptism.

Matthew 6:31-34 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. 34"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.

Luke 12:29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be of anxious mind.

Philippians 4:6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

1Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.

Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

John 6:48-51 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. 51I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh."

Matthew 4:4 But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"

2Peter 2:21-22 For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22It has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog turns back to his own vomit, and the sow is washed only to wallow in the mire.

The Bread of the Lord’s Supper in the sacrament accompanies the wine following the footwashing. They are inseparable from the sacrament.

5.116. And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower of Things Hidden?

5.117. I spake unto them only that which Thou commandedst me, (saying): Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. I was a witness of them while I dwelt among them, and when Thou tookest me Thou wast the Watcher over them. Thou art Witness over all things.

Early commentary from our Koran team:

Ma qultu lahum illa ma amartanee bihi ani oAAbudoo Allaha rabbee warabbakum wakuntu AAalayhim shaheedan ma dumtu feehim falamma tawaffaytanee kunta anta alrraqeeba AAalayhim waanta AAala kulli shay-in shaheedun

"'I did not say to them except what You ordered/commanded me with it, that worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord, and I was on them a witness as long as I continued/lasted in them, so when You caused me to die, You were the guard on them, and you (are) on every thing (an) honest witness.'" (5:117)

تَوَفَّيْتَنِي = “tawaffaytanee”

“tawaffaytanee” definition:

You caused me to die. It comes from the root “wafa”, which means to reach the end, keep one’s promise, fulfill one’s engagement, pay a debt, perform a promise.

John 17:12-15 While I was with them, I kept them in thy name, which thou hast given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13But now I am coming to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14I have given them thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15I do not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one.

Acts 5:32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.

Note that there is no doubt in the mind of the author of the Qur'an from this text (Surah 5. 116-117) that Christ was resurrected from the dead.

Revelation 20:4-6 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy is he who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and they shall reign with him a thousand years.
