Sabbath 25/2/33/120B

Dear Friends,

This week at the monthly meeting of the Council of Churches in Kenya (CCK) we were asked to give support to defeating the proposed referendum to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya.

The two proposed changes to the constitution are 1. to introduce Sharia Law to Kenya for Muslims and the other 2. to allow abortion more or less on demand.

The current constitution is in accordance with Biblical law and the teaching of CCG is that there is one law for all people both citizens and strangers or sojourners (Ex. 12:49; Lev. 24:22; Num. 15:16, 29)

The second is that abortion is only permitted when the life of the mother is in danger in accordance with the Fifth Commandment and the law that a child that threatens the life of the parent (i.e. strikes his parent) is to die (Ex. 21:15).

In accordance with those biblical rules CCG has agreed to support the CCK resolution and advise its members to oppose the referendum and protect the constitution as it now stands.

Coordinators are to explain the situation to all parishioners of the churches. All our people are asked to vote to defeat the referendum.
