Commentary on the Koran: Surah 52
“The Mount”
Pickthall Translation; Bible
Quotes are from the English Standard Version unless otherwise noted.
Introduction
At-Tur takes its name from the opening verse.
It is an early Beccan Surah along with the others used to begin the
instructions at Becca and to explain the plan of Salvation of Scripture.
The early texts refer
to the Scriptures used in the calling of the church at Becca.
*****
52.1. By
the Mount,
52.2.
And a Scripture inscribed
52.3. On
fine parchment unrolled,
Exodus 31:18 And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on
Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with
the finger of God.
Deuteronomy 4:13 And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded
you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments, and he wrote them on two tablets
of stone.
John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came
through Jesus Christ.
Refer to Deuteronomy 29:29 in Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 20 (No. Q020) at ayat 6.
The distinction made in
the law of God as given to Moses on the Mount at Sinai was as being on tablets
of stone and then written in the text of the law (see the paper Distinction in the Law (No. 096)).
Then a tabernacle was built at Sinai and transported in the Exodus and brought
to Hebron and then finally to Jerusalem.
52.4. And the House frequented,
52.5.
And the roof exalted,
Exodus 33:7 Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the
camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone
who sought the LORD would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the
camp.
1Kings 8:30 And listen to the plea of your
servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen
in heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.
Psalm 20:5 May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God
set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!
Psalm 60:4 You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee
to it from the bow. Selah
The tent of meeting led to the tabernacle raised by Moses which eventually led
to the physical temple which pointed to the spiritual Temple of God. As prayers
were directed to the physical temple by physical Israel so our prayers are
directed to God in His heavenly tabernacle. We exalt God in prayer and in our
praises to Him.
And the Sea was built
at the Tabernacle and the Temple of God.
52.6. And the sea kept filled,
The Sea symbolised the
understanding of the Scriptures and the laws of God. It was kept filled but not
completely.
Isaiah 11:9 They shall not hurt or destroy in all my
holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the
waters cover the sea.
Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the
glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
We look forward to all of the creation reconciled to God and the restoration of
all things.
52.7. Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass;
52.8.
There is none that can ward it off.
52.9. On
the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving,
52.10. And
the mountains move away with (awful) movement,
52.11. Then woe that day unto the deniers
52.12. Who
play in talk of grave matters;
52.13. The
day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell
52.14. (And
it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny.
52.15. Is this magic, or do ye not see?
52.16. Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient
of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do.
Matthew 24:21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been
from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.
Revelation 11:13 And at that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of
the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the
rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.
Hebrews 9:27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that
comes judgment.

Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 17 (No. Q017) for Revelation 20:12 at ayat 17.15 and 2Corinthians 5:10 at ayat 17.36; also see Commentary on the Koran:
Surah 30 (No. Q030) for 2Peter
3:9 and Habakkuk 2:3 at ayat 30.60.
52.17. Lo!
those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight,
52.18.
Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath
warded off from them the torment of hell-fire.
52.19.
(And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye
used to do,
52.20. Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide,
lovely eyes.
52.21. And
they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to
join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every
man is a pledge for that which he hath earned.
52.22. And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire.
52.23.
There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of
sin.
52.24. And
there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden
pearls.
52.25. And
some of them draw near unto others, questioning,
52.26.
Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious;
52.27. But
Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the
breath of Fire.
52.28. Lo!
we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful.
The texts from verses
17 to 28 refer to the entire process from the First Resurrection through the
millennial system to the Second Resurrection and then continues on down into
the destruction from the Second Resurrection.
Refer to Revelation 20:6 in Commentary
on the Koran: Surah 30 (No. Q030) at ayat 15.
Romans 2:7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;
Revelation 22:9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow
servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the
words of this book. Worship God.
The loyal angelic Host will be our companions during the reign with Christ.
Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in
marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Joel 2:13 and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your
God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast
love; and he relents over disaster.
52.29. Therefor warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art
neither soothsayer nor madman.
52.30. Or
say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time?
52.31. Say
(unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant.
Refer to 2Peter 1:21 in Commentary
on the Koran: Surah 20 (No. Q020) at ayat
6.
2Samuel 23:2 The Spirit of the LORD speaks by me; his word is on my
tongue.
God ordained the works that His prophets were to do. What they warn about may
take some time but nevertheless will take place in due time in accordance with
the plan of God. We are now in the Last Days and Satan’s time is short.
Refer to 2Peter 3:9 and Habakkuk 2:3 in Commentary on the Koran:
Surah 30 (No. Q030) at
ayat 60.
52.32. Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an
outrageous folk?
52.33. Or
say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe!
52.34.
Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful.
Psalm 14:1-3 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are
corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. 2The
LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who
understand, who seek after God. 3They have all turned aside;
together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
Psalm 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth,
speaking lies.
John 12:40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”
Refer to Ephesians 4:18 in Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 39 (No. Q039) at ayat 22.
52.35. Or
were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators?
52.36. Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure
of nothing!
52.37. Or
do they own the treasures of thy Lord?
Or have they been given
charge (thereof)?
Genesis 2:7 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living
creature.
Isaiah 64:8 But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are
our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Job 10:9-11 Remember that you have made me like clay; and will you return me to
the dust? 10Did you not pour me out like milk and curdle me like
cheese? 11You clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together
with bones and sinews.
Jeremiah 10:10-12 But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation. 11Thus shall you say to them: “The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.” 12It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
Psalm 146:6 who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who
keeps faith forever;
Psalm 24:1-2 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and
those who dwell therein, 2for he has founded it upon the seas and
established it upon the rivers.

put to shame by his idols, for his images are false, and there is no breath in
them.
52.38. Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they
overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!
1Timothy 6:16 who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light,
whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion.
Amen.
Jeremiah 10:5 Their idols are like scarecrows
in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they
cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it
in them to do good.”
52.39. Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons?
See Matthew 22:30 at ayat 28 above and refer to
Job 1:6; Job 2:1 and Job 38:7 in Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 18 (No. Q018) at ayat 6.
God has multiple sons which He generated by divine fiat and they all are submissive
to Him. They speak a lie about God having daughters. Stupid pagans like to
worship female deities but they kill their daughters preferring to keep their
sons alive for their own selfish reasons.
52.40. Or
askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt?
Acts 8:20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you
thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Acts 20:33 I coveted no one’s silver or gold
or apparel.
The servants of the Almighty will always rely on their master for their needs
and are not greedy for man’s filthy lucre.
52.41. Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down?
See 1Timothy 6:16 at ayat 38 above.
Isaiah 41:22 Let them bring them, and tell us what is to happen. Tell us the
former things, what they are, that we may consider them, that we may know their
outcome; or declare to us the things to come.

not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my
purpose,’
Proverbs 21:30 No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the
LORD.
52.42. Or seek they to ensnare (the
messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared!
Job 5:13 He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the schemes of the
wily are brought to a quick end.
1Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is
written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,”
Psalm 7:15-16 He makes a pit, digging it out,
and falls into the hole that he has made. 16His mischief returns
upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.
52.43. Or have they any god beside
Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!
Refer to Isaiah 45:5 in Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 27 (No. Q027) at ayat 44 and Revelation 4:11 in Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 39 (No. Q039) at ayat 4.
Isaiah 46:9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no
other; I am God, and there is none like me.
Psalm 89:6-7 For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, 7a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him?
Isaiah 37:19 and have cast their gods into the
fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone.
Therefore they were destroyed.
52.44. And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they
would say: A heap of clouds.
52.45.
Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be
thunder-stricken,
52.46. A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be
helped.
52.47. And
verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of
them know not.
52.48. So
wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our
sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest,
52.49. And in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the
stars.
Proverbs 1:27 when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like
a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.
Proverbs 10:24 What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the
righteous will be granted.

an evil net, and like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man
are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.

with him, for what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.

9:27 at ayat 52.16 above.

5:10 in Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 17 (No. Q017) at ayat 36 and Habakkuk
2:3 Commentary on the
Koran: Surah 18 (No. Q018) at ayat 82.
God
protects the elect of the Body of Christ and provides for those of the
Muhammad.
The
evildoers suffer ruin and destruction in their physical lives ending in their
graves and in the Second Resurrection will face
corrective retraining to lead them to repentance. If they refuse to repent
during the 100 years allocated for that purpose they will be cremated in the
lake of fire which will be the Second Death for them and all memory of them
will be erased.
